Lots of context , some of which you missed to suit your argument to be fair.

This isnt a thread for the big picture but in terms of strikers I dont think people who want Kane replaced are being outlandish and they can certainly make an argument considering Kane's contribution that mid table beckons.

It's all about opinions I guess as I'd like to get someone like Orban ( a young up and coming striker) and go all out for a winger who can play either flank and beat a man but that looks unlikely too.
I haven't missed anything deliberately. 😕

The point is that we don't know how things are going to pan out. I'm hopeful we sign 2 more attackers and another CB.

I will be annoyed if we don't upgrade off the back of the kane money.

It wasn't supposed to come across that way apologies I just felt that painting it as one bad season is misleading because actually the 4tg place finish is the one that stands out in the past few years rather than the mid table one.

Harry Winks as an example, Levy initially wanted £40m, when he could have easily shifted an academy player for half that, in the end went to Leicester for £10m. Could put the stadium naming rights into the same bracket, Levy has a figure in mind, as a result we're 4 years without naming rights deal for arguably one of the best sporting arenas in the world.
If he had a got a deal then it would probably be up for renewal by now the stadium rights

To be fair, don't mean to turn it all into an anti-Levy thing. Making a point that we're possibly turning out nose up to decent revenue in the short term in the hope we'll make big in the long run, but it rarely works out that way. With regards to the stadium, while I know this is not the place to discuss it, we are getting additional revenue from other events so as long as it gets paid off, it doesn't really matter how it's done. Fully agree with other comments on not selling our soul on naming rights, but if that's the case then don't see why we can't just call it White Hart Lane.

Quite frankly if we don't want to be at the top table paying £100m for players like Caicedo and Rice, £55m Lavia etc, then this is the type of gambles we need to take. Whether we like that as a fanbase or not, it's where the club is and wants to be.

Only shitty little football league clubs do short term deals over their stadium naming rights. The norm is now 20 years.

doing a bad deal for the sake of getting a deal quickly therefore risks losing far more money than the few years at the beginning where you might not have one.

It is also noticeable that the premier league now prefer not to have a title sponsor. It was actually counter-productive for them to have one.

So it is not certain that the club actually want a naming rights deal right now, rather than developing the venue first and making it globally known before they finally agree a deal.
I know that doesn’t fit the narrative but it is commercial reality.

Edit: if anyone wants to move this to the more relevant thread please do so. Never sure how it’s possible to reply to someone without going off topic in a thread.

Perfectly put.... I haven't and won't get my knickers in a knot this transfer window and into this season ... because I realize this is exactly who we are as a club and it's current owners. We are there to make up the numbers.

Agree the sentiment but £100m for Rice and Caicedo is a massive overpayment IMO

Not the way I see it. We aren't there to make up the numbers, but we cannot go toe to toe financially with some clubs, we have to be smarter.

I'm not even convinced chelsea are that much stronger, despite the ridiculous spend.

They cannot replace kante in form.

Interesting to look at the top transfers out of Belgian league and large majority have been a huge success.

Jonathan David, Jeremy Doku, Sander Berge, Youri Tielemans, Odilon Kossounno, Victor Osimhen, Fellaine, Mitrovic, Ndidi.....the list goes on.

Very few what you would consider flops. De Ketelaere is most expensive to ever come out and he had a difficult first year at Milan. Wesley Moraes at Villa.

Also of note, none of the top strikers out of the league have been anywhere near the goal output that Gift Orban has had in the league.

Orban 17 games - 16 goals
Jonathan David 60 games - 30 goals
Wesley Moraes 107 games - 32 goals
Victor Osimhen 25 games - 12 goals
Victor Boniface 37 games - 9 goals
Aleksander Mitrovic 69 games - 36 goals
Romelu Lukaku 73 games - 33 goals

This kid is putting up goal numbers never seen before in a league that historically produces top European talent. I think he is much more of a sure thing than most give him credit for.
Vincent Jansen for AZ 2015-2016 - 34 matches and 27 Goals........ just saying :p
and i rate the Dutch league higher than the Belgium

I don't think you'll have many people arguing with you, but unfortunately it's the market for players of that calibre. You either pay it or you take gambles based on scouting/data. The club clearly see themselves more comfortable in the latter than the former.

That makes it sound very binary when it really isn’t.

Romero, Bentancur and Bissouma are better than anything Chelsea habe bought and none were in the “gamble” category.

Which is why you hope with proper scouting and way better analytics you’d hope we are a little more thorough than just looking at goal scoring records.

To be fair Janssen is among a fair few players to have played for us and gone on to show we may have been the problem or done well in their careers...Paulinho and Foyth also come to mind.

It does strike me that if we are keen to get this guy (or anyone else for that matter) in, we're playing it very cool, and seem to be in no rush whatsoever.

Maybe 'preparing a bid' takes a long time?

All of those situations also aren't relatable either, especially as they were all multiple years ago now (bar Bissouma who I speak about in a minute). The former two were from Italy, with Juventus actively trying to get Bentancur out of their club and Bissouma was on a short contract, hence the much lower fee.

For example Chelsea are seeking 30m for Lewis Hall, who has played 12 premier league games.

There are 20 premier league teams who are rich compared to the average club on the continent, we are no more likely to spend big money on a player than the majority of them.

That’s all fair enough but don’t you think we should be more organised than we are?
