There were some theories around Poch's formation at Southampton, whereby it was different to the 4231 we seem to have adopted. It was more 433/4312. Two slightly deeper CM's, one slightly more advanced.
Then the front 3 consisted more of a CF tasked with occupying the defence (Lambert), a WF given license to drive in from a wider areas and get in make runs beyond the CF (Rodriguez) and an AM/No10 who would look for knock downs or thread passes through (Lallana).

Just putting it out there, but weren't we the only team with three players getting double digits in the league?

OK calm down buddy, how about on topic of the thread and the lack of goals from midfield? Whether you want to class the supporting players as forwards they will most likely play as part of the 3 in the 4-2-3-1 formation.
I'm miffed because your comments are wrong and uneducated , it's basically all I've seen about son and njie and its basically dumb. It's why I've gradually been getting annoyed with most spurs fans. So much knee jerk reaction stupidity it's ruining being remotely positive about the players we have brought in.

Factor is there is a large fickle bunch on here and I'm sure everyone will doubt son and njie doing a job and then once they bang in multiple goals everyone will suddenly change their mind.

As for goals from midfield yes others should chip in but then maybe you should look at other teams . Spurs was one of the very few or I think maybe the only one that had 3 players score in double figures.

Just taking the positives

Excuse me but like many of our fans I am still to learn about our new signings. Calling it dumb is ridiculous mate, just because I for one don't follow French and German Leagues but am basing my views on what I have read. Not to mention the term 'attacking midfielder' can easily be used to describe the likes of Chadli and Lamela I don't see why you can't say the same for N'jie and Son. Whether you call those supporting players strikers or attacking midfielders I am guessing we've spent £30m+ on them to support Kane not to be his backup on the bench. I'll just call them forwards if it makes you happy but I expect they'll play in that attacking 3 either way.

I don't understand Ryan Mason. He was a goal scoring machine in the youth teams. Yet, for the first team, he looks like Steffen Freund whenever he attempts a shot on goal.

he needs to get the first one innit....its like when you were a pimply 17 year old and you were scrambling around to get laid...it took a bloody age but once it happened the flood gates opened and a bit of how's your father was on the menu every week after that

I think his point is the only people saying we are playing 4231 are the fans. Listening to Pochettino he says Chadli is playing as a striker. I don't think coaches actually talk in formations like fans do.
So N'jie and Son are very much forwards.

yes, Kane, Eriksen, Chadli

I'd guess we are now hoping to make that 4 or even 5 players this season as our AM/Striker options being used have gone from Kane, Eriksen, Chadli, Lamela/Townsend (with a little input from Soldado/Adebayor) last season to adding Son, N'Jie, and Pritchard all of whom look capable (based on last season) of scoring 10 or more goals, and given that last season several players were overplayed (eg Eriksen) with their performances dropping off, you'd hope that Poch would use the extra players to rotate more, and at least one of them get to 10 goals or more - Son is one of only a few players to score 10 or more in each of the last German league seasons so he's obviously the favourite.

We might get a few more out of central midfield, but as long as we play a CM2 I'm not sure we will get a 10+ goalscorer from there as they don't get into goalscoring positions often enough, but we might get more than last season in aggregate now we have more of them to rotate - and Alli seems to have a good record.

Apparently our midfield contains at least 2 strikers so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Pochettinho 4231 is much more flexible than people think, the shout for 433 is odd and too rigid.

Imo.

I'd switch to a 442 - diamond

Lloris
Walker-Toby-Jan-Rose
Dier
DeleAlli.......Bentaleb
Eriksen
Son..........Kane

Son, Kane, Eriksen, Alli, and Bentaleb all have goals in them

ETA - Clinton is the striker sub, Chadli could play striker or Bentaleb's slot, Lamela could play Eriksen's or Alli's slot, Mason could play any of Alli, Bentaleb, Eriksen, etc.

Very flexible imo

Once again another thread with incorrect details. Son and Njie are strikers and wide forwards. I'm going to keep saying this in every thread until people get this , they are not attacking mids or wingers. Njie constantly played up top with lacazette, Son played as a wide forward for leverkusen and also behind the striker and for South Korea he plays as a striker.

What's wrong with people.
