He's been very good this tournament but I still can't help but see Sterling as a slightly better Shaun Wright-Phillips!

He's way better than that - i don't think you're a Pep mainstay for three years if you're at SWP's level...
Oh I agree and I'm not saying he's a bad player, he's bloody good. I just find him a little frustrating at times with the frequency with which he can run down blind allys, when there's a decent pass on.
Maybe it's more that swp was a shit version of Sterling. ?

think that’s a misconception he “runs down blind alleys”

on Wednesday he completed 10 dribbles. The next highest was Mount with 2.

Only four players have had more successful take ons this tournament.

his direct running turns defences and sucks in men. Dribbling at the speed he does is a real skill and valuable to a team in transition and in tight spaces higher up the pitch

I don’t think he gets nearly the credit he deserves as a mainstay of the best attacking team in Europe over the last five years. And He’s been immense this tournament.

Sterling was dangerous but I can't help but think he should have had a hat trick at the end of the Denmark game.

As I say, it's only my opinion but I think his finishing is somewhat weak and too often his dribbles lead to nothing. Yeah, I like that he takes people on and he does score goals, it's just that I find him quite frustrating at times. Just my onions.

But that's not to say that he hasn't been one of our best players the tournament.

His finishing could definitely improve - it's the weakest part of his game. I guess the other pieces outweigh that though in the minds of Pep and Southgate

Yeah and I agree in that he's the best player of his type in England, in that he's not scared to run at people.
I didn't mean it to come across like I don't rate him, I do, just that I sometimes find him a bit annoying but that's the price you pay for that type of player.

He’s already hit legendary status with us. If he wins the euros on Sunday he goes down as legendary in English football which he has almost accomplished regardless. This will get the trophy drought off his back as well as he’s just won the second biggest prize in world football which might convince him to stay as he doesn’t have anything to prove anymore.

Imagine leading your country to European glory, becoming a national hero and then going back to your club to play in the Europa Conference League.

All this talk about needing trophies to be considered the best is silly

I don’t dispute his desire from a personal perspective - he should be playing for a team that can compete to win -but will anyone worthwhile really think less of him at the end of his career ifhe doesn’t have as many trophies as an Andy Cole or a David May?

jimmy greaves never won the league with us, missed out on the World Cup winners medal and “only” won the FA Cup (x2) and cup winners cup in his career. He’s still considered England’s greatest striker by some distance. Lineker only won the FA Cop once…he’s still considered one of our best

If Harry breaks the records he’s likely to, he’ll rightly be considered one of the greatest irrespective of his trophy cabinet.
