That's, um, one perspective I guess.

this actually caused me to blow a rice crispie out of my nostril. One of the top five worst footballers I’ve ever seen playing for England regularly. Only gets picked because they used joe hart’s squaddie persona on his character creation screen. Plus he looks like a giant midget.

And you call yourself a Spurs fan.
Should do some research into the clubs history
That bloke who said "Bobby smith whoever he is " is in my eyes supporting the wrong club and should look elsewhere to find another club to know nothing about.
I find this blokes comment insulting to the player to the club and to other supporters .
Quite right
Gents,

I don't think we can expect all fans to know about every player in the club's history. It seems from your comments that some of you witnessed Bobby Smith play, whereas lots of members here weren't even born.

On top of that, it's redundant anyway because @Monkey boy's comment was tongue-in-cheek.

Taking aside the "tongue in cheek" nature of the comment - Not knowing the second top goalscorer in the club's history, and the striker for our double winning team is pretty unacceptable if you want to be taken seriously. Not knowing Steve Slade or Jamie Slabber is one thing, but not knowing a club legend and the striker for our last league winning team is a completely different ball game.

I guess it's the nature of the current generation to not really care. When I was a kid I'd read all my father's Spurs books, etc. Now myself I have two sons aged 13 and 11 who couldn't give a toss about football, let alone Spurs, despite the fact I took them to games from the age of 6 and 4 respectively. They just have more stuff going on competing for their attention than past generations.

Anyway, know your history is the underlying point. Especially the important bits. I imagine most people who've bothered to sign up for a Spurs internet forum probably would know their stuff anyway.

He put in an emoji afterwards indicating that he was joking.

The poster has already responded to that point, saying he was joking.

Jeepers, I didn’t think that a harmless stab at sarcasm would cause so many Sandy vaginas in here. I’m 39 years of age and have supported spurs since I was old enough to walk. For the record I know full well who Bobby Smith was, just as much as I can name you the starting 11 from our last major trophy back in 1991.

In saying that, if people don’t know or are not really bothered about reading up on a player from 60 odd years ago then that’s perfectly ok aswell, doesn’t make them any less of a supporter than somebody that knows the full history of every player.

Interestingly enough that you mention Steve Slade, I remember his debut and also other legends like Rory Allen who I was equally convinced would go on to big things.

I know, I was more responding to the "I don't think we can expect fans to know all of our past players" - which is a fair enough comment. We've had thousands and thousands of players. But to not know very important past players? Is that acceptable? I'd say not.

If you don't know Oyvind Leonhardsen played for us fair enough, if you don't know Glenn Hoddle played for us that's not so good.

As I’ve a couple of little ones at home myself I can understand the difficulties of a home/work balance, after having to spend so little time having an adult conversation for most of the day. But I draw the line at playing peekaboo with the boss.
