We should sell him and start to accept we are not a top club and will never be.

Reinvest the funds in players-who will help us fight for top 4/6 and repeat the cycle whist not being able to build a squad that can win a cup, and hope we don’t drop to fighting arsenal for a top half spot.

we are done as an investment vehicle.

We are fans, we are not scouts, we are not educated in the scouting game no mater how we think we should be. Of fucking course we arent going to bitch and moan, we are hear to support, the club has trained staff staff to do this job. If the club get it wrong its on them, not us.

Just a case of wanting it both ways then.

I remember when we got rid of Jimmy Greaves. Uproar. Some of us actually forsake Spurs and followed him to the other side (I was 9 FFS!!!)
It all came good again. Eventually!!
Big difference Greavsie won medals with us, Harry has sod all.

Well, I’m caught up. I’ve learnt nothing.

I’m not sure where I sit on all of this, to be honest.
There are a lot of posts slagging this or slagging that.
I’m not convinced that apportioning blame to the board is accurate. I’m not convinced apportioning blame to the players is accurate.

As we are Spurs fans we are always going to have a macro view of the intricacies of the season. City occasionally have a bad season. Chelsea occasionally have a bad season. Lots of other clubs have bad seasons. We don’t really pay it much attention. We don’t see it as a cause for concern. We just think “they’ll be back next season” etc.
This is the worst season in recent memory for us. What must be considered, though is that this hasn’t been a “normal” season. Everything’s been weird. it’s been far from a normal season.
I was really positive with the signings we made in the summer. I thought we had done well. And then when we were top of the league, things were looking good. Can Spurs win the title?! We all knew it wouldn’t come to fruition but it’s nice to hope, I guess.
Even so, we are where we are now.

It’s not as disastrous as the doom mongers would have you believe, but it’s also not all rosy. It’s somewhere between the two.

I think we need to see what happens with Kane (personally I’d sell if a suitable offer comes in), see what happens with the manager and see what happens in the transfer window. We all might know a little bit more about what our future holds for us then.

Until that happens, everything is literally conjecture. We were always going to be without Kane at some point; he’d have to retire at some point after all, so in some ways we may as well tackle it sooner rather than later.

A man doesn’t make a team.

A team is, in my opinion, what we are devoid of right now. We have some players. We don’t have a team. That is what needs addressing the most.

We’re always going to have some kind of weird relationship with the players at our club. I sometimes look at our squad and think it’s full of cartoon players who don’t have steel or determination. They aren’t good.
I look at, for example, Everton and think that they have footballers (and we have caricatures or whatever.)

All other opposition fans would very likely think in a similar manner. That is why this feels so bad, because of our macro view of it all. Other fans will likely be thinking that we will be competing again next season.

Short-term the outlook isn’t good, granted. But if we look at the trend in how the club is progressing, it has only been going upwards.

Not entirely sure what my point is anymore.

It’s more than a blip season tho isn’t it? And were not still going upwards. We’ve gone from CL finalists to europa league to most likely 9th. Plummeting I would say. Squad full of dross. Mainly homegrown that need replacing and no money due to COVID. And Kane’s leaving. Hardly upwards.
edit: also we currently don’t have a manager and have no clue who it might be.

I agree. But I saw an interesting aggregated graph of “progress” earlier and it broke our history down into 3-5 year segments (can’t remember the exact figure). Every one of them under Enic apart from this one has seen an upturn or progression.

There is an awful lot of work to do, but I’ll judge things when we’re a few games into next season. Not right now. Right now is largely bollocks and probably not indicative of our actual merit. The whole place is in disarray. We’re completely rudderless. Things will improve, though.

No not at all, you seem to conflate things together and fail to distinguish a completely different point that’s being made.

What point? That you don't trust the club to spend any potential Kane money wisely? OK good for you. Go for broke with your doom mongering.

I asked you to back up your claim based on the last few windows signings and your reasoning is that we've had a shit season playing shit football. We had a rough season after we signed Bale too, finishing 8th with only 51 points, so he was a shit signing going by your logic.

Right. I'm out.

Where we would we be without Kane this season? This squad would have us nearer relegation than Europe. We desperately need Levy to get on and appoint a new manager who can rejuvenate the club. Problem is I can’t see an obvious candidate out there that we could realistically get that could do it.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that all those signings made sense at the time. Were they earth shattering? No. But I heard no one complaining about any of them when we signed them.

To bitch and moan about recruiting them now, after a shithole of a season for everyone quite frankly, is disingenuous.
The success of a transfer is always judged by the performance of the said player, not when the player is signed. Which is why player scouting is so important and people getting paid big money to make those decisions are rightly also going to be judged by the performance of the players they signed.
And the fact remains that the big money signing for the last two years had under performed which naturally is going to brings doubts over the ability of those people who is responsible for choosing those players.

Are you seriously comparing professional scouts to fans getting excited by YouTube videos?

Last night was a bit of a lightbulb moment for me with him and his current situation. The thing is, he is a fan, we are fans and have had enough. But we don’t put our bodies on the line for it at work every day. I have no sympathy for him in that regard, he is ridiculously well paid for it but I can understand if he wants to move.

But if I were him, like with people undecided whether to renew their season tickets, I would wait and see who the new manager is. Should that not excite him then fair enough, go. If the players we want to bring in isn’t enough then go too.

Leaving the club for him is a huge decision. I bet he wakes up one day and wants to go and the next wanting to stay. A huge decision for him.

Probably a very hard decision for him to make.

Whatever it is, I will respect his decision. If I were in his shoes, I'd probably want to walk away too.

Even with a really good appointment at the top, we still miles away from being a team that challenges on all fronts. I've said it plenty times but there is a rot in this squad that needs to be cut out long before we start to think about improving again.

I have to agree. Let's be brutally honest. If he loves the club so much how can he want to play against us and compete in the same league?
Bingo
Look at the photo of Harry on his own applauding the crowd.
Read that quote from Ledley.

A player who in his prime was far too good for us.
A player who undoubtedly had offers and could've left in search of trophies.
A player who stuck with us until the very end.

This is my club, my one and only club.
A proper club legend.

Hmmmmmn. You are very much saying the club's version of the Lesley King story. You forgot to add:
A player that could not train.
A player that nobody would have spent big on given his injury.

We don't know that he would have stayed had he been fit (and who could blame him?).

It's a great quote and a great picture though.

All I'm saying is people should hold off on the God like status they're gifting Harry.
If he forces a move he doesn't deserve it imo.
