He also spoke about watching the Michael Jordan documentary who happened to stay with Chicago Bulls throughout his career.

100% he did speak about that. Loved the Last Dance series but it was clear that Jordan wanted to be able to dictate how things worked above his head at the Bulls as he clearly never got on with the hierarchy. I'm sure had the NBA facilitated those sorts of big money moves in the way football does, and had a franchise been able to cough up he would've been tempted- after all he wasn't a local lad was he?

He's also arguably the best striker in the world and his game isn't dependent on pace.
Right - but a player's price always factors in both where he is today, and how long he will stay at that level.

So, Kane might be considered one of the top strikers today, but teams will be hedging that he will not remain there for 5 years - given his age, and injury history.

I think people often overlook the later part of player valuations, and just focus on current talent levels.

Over on the bluemoon forum "Just heard that the deal is losing momentum. City not willing to meet Spurs demands on fee so only way this’ll happen is if we sell Bernardo and Laporte."

if we could get laporte/silva on 1 year loans (with an option)or something maybe we could convince them after they spent a season here etc & city to pay their wages - id take £100m

I'm concerned that we accept a bid so late on that we won't have the time to reinvest it.

To be fair, investing in incomings doesn’t seem to be our biggest issue since the arrival of Paratici (the Kane issue and shifting deadwood loom much larger IMO). Assuming Romero gets sorted, we‘ll have spent ~£70m plus on new signings with no sign of slowing down.

The money is coming from somewhere - Lewis finally opening the purse strings? Expected return of match day revenue? Stadium sponsor? Pre-spending Kane ££ (from this year or next)? Hard to say, but if we were to go about reinvesting in the squad, much better to do it this way than after we sell Kane and other clubs can hold us over a barrel.

Big caveat - For this to work, we need to further step up our transfer activity before the end of the window, and crucially find another striker as a replacement.

Even if he does stay now i think he has lost the majority of the fan base. He will not be supported or cheered the way he was. Far from it.
Id tend to agree however as soon as he starts banging goals in with regularity again it'll quickly change

100mil and a couple of loans is the worst suggestion so far and City will be bloody laughing

It’s not up to us to help them match our valuation. They are literally the richest football club in the world, if they want our best player, they can bloody well pay what we want.

My 3 year old nephew said to me on the bus this morning: “Why does Harry Kane want to leave Spurs? Sure, he’s more likely to win major honours at Manchester City, but from a moral and ethical standpoint they’re essentially a front for a Middle Eastern oil cartel, and have ridden roughshod over financial fair play regulations, to the detriment of smaller clubs and grassroots football as a whole. And in any case, his tax burden will increase massively with the mooted uplift in salary”.

The whole bus erupted into applause, and the driver started doing donuts in the middle of a dual carriageway.

proper made me LOL..... and also!! .... bus wanker!

I and many others alluded to this at the end of last season. Levy needed needed take a short term hit for long term gain. Shifting the deadwood, spend this summer to refresh the squad and then hopefully reeneegise the squad each window from here on.

The signs are there that this is hopefully what we're doing and with Fabio hopefully we'll never be in the position where we've not signed anyone for 18 months again

Its going to feel very off if he comes back for basically just one more season. Everything would feel very fake.

I hope somebody suggests a 1-2yr extension and a fair mutually agreed release fee as a way of smoothing things over between him, the club and us, at least giving everyone the impression, actual or otherwise, that if we improve and win something he might actually voluntarily stay.

An absolute mess. I just cannot see any reason to mouth off to the press about anything when you don't have to.

Normal people don't walk around having to tell people that they are honest/hardworking/fair etc as your actions should be telling people that already, why a professional footballer, who has worked his balls off, ever felt the need to tell people he was ambitious when it was so obviously a ploy to keep the club on its toes is beyond me.

As already mentioned by others, if a work colleague went around spouting that i would be seriously peeved by the perceived slight to me and others.

Seriously beginning to doubt he is really a Spurs fan, i've had suspicions since the photo in the gooner kit. I desperately wanted to be a footballer at that age and you could have offered me anything to train at Arsenal and wear their shirt and i would have refused. I get that changes as you get older and things get serious, but at that age? Just no way, I'd have been bawling my eyes out calling QPR or Orient using my pocket money ffs.

Such a shame that he and his brother chose short-term success (assuming success) over long-term legacy.

So he goes to City and wins a few trophies over the next 3 years. What about the rest of your life Harry? I don't think anybody will want to pick him up as a commentator or TV analyst. Spurs would have definitely brought him back as a club ambassador or some coaching role, but who in their right mind would do that now? So as things stand, I don't really see any type of career after football. Hope you enjoy golfing Harry.

Also he could have walked the roads of glory with us. Instead he is going to be hiding in the shadows.

Just had a little look at City's reported wages, found this site:

No idea how reliable it is but it says that Silva is on £150k a week with Laporte on £120k a week. For reference De Bruyne is listed at £385k a week.

I doubt either of them would come to us anyway but if those numbers are accurate at least we know wages wouldn't be that much of an issue.

Both clubs denied the Sun claim though. The only bid we know of is £100m which isn't a fair bid when you consider what Grealish has gone for, and what Lukaku is reportedly available for. Gentleman's agreement or not, no reasonable offer has come in and may very well not come in at all now.
I am sure it was a complete surprise to both clubs, but that is my point, the story clearly came from the Kane camp. But if the narrative is that Harry was promised a move for £100 million why would he mention the £160 million price in a story which can only be traced back to them at Charlie's wedding. I am simply questioning this notion that Levy promised Kane a move for £100 million

If Real Madrid can afford to target Mbappe, why aren't they interested in Kane? Or City interested in Mbappe?
Kane has said he won't go abroad. For all his faults he is unashamedly a devoted family man. He won't be apart from his kids or uproot them into a foreign-speaking country.
