As much as it was a friendly, the way against Shakhtar Kane played further up and his increasing admiration for Ange (and his system) may have given much more cause for consideration of these offers and a renewed optimism over life at Tottenham for 23/24.

Really could have been perfect timing in the grand scheme of things.
It's interesting. There was a definite change in his play after half time. Less dropping deep. It was like Ange must have told him, go up top and we will feed you. you don't need to do everything yourself anymore. He did and it worked. That can only have helped him develop trust in Ange's approach.

Maybe, it's certainly a possibility. If we have decided to rebuff all offers I'd be amazed if it wasn't tied into Levy's "weekend break" to Miami though.
I'm still not seeing the relevance of the trip in connection with Kane's future but this may well become apparent as the window progresses.

Get the sense of alot of moving parts right now that us mere mortals have little idea of - you may well be hearing different.

This is my thinking - and it really hasn't changed:

1. If Kane will not commit to a new deal - and has told Levy he is leaving next summer - then yes, you must sell. He is worth more to club in guaranteed transfer fees than he is in potential revenue in the future. (This is where I was at the end of last season - convinced he was done with Spurs)

2. But, if Kane is open to a new deal, even if he won't commit right now - then that changes the calculations, and Levy will have to decide how much risk is he willing to take.

3. Right now - all indications are that Kane is simply keeping his options open, and not committing to stay or leave next summer.

4. So, what are the chances Kane would want to stay?

On this, I think there are several factors. First, is Kane enjoying himself at Spurs? I think that has been a key question for the last couple of seasons. Yes, he wants to win, but everyone wants to like where they work. If I had a a guess, I would say at the end of last season, Kane really did not like it here, and was ready to go just about anywhere. The lengthy manager search probably did not help. But, with Ange, you can see the entire squad have a bit more pep in their step. Players are enjoying the football, and also the approach by Ange to treat everyone equally, and like adults. And, you can see that Ange isn't coming here to check off a bucket list item - he expects to win here.

Second - are Spurs going to be competitive? Nobody knows yet. Signs point to a turnaround, but until we start playing real matches, we won't know how this new project will take shape. That will weight heavily on Kane's mind - winning is still his priority, imo. So, there is no reason for him to commit until he sees a bit more on how this is going to play out.

Third - and everyone laughs - but the market for Kane next summer is very unclear. Yes, he could have his pick of clubs - but in reality most clubs don't offer long-term deals to 31-yo players. And, he has to find a club that would be closer to winning, and need a striker, and be willing to pay his wages/sign-on fee. In Europe (i.e. excluding Saudi) it's going to be a smaller market of teams that meet all of those requirements than most expect. And Spurs could very well be his best option considering all of those factors - so that gives Levy hope that even as late as next summer, Kane could sign an extension.

And finally, if he stays and has a big season, and is that much closer to the PL record - that limits the field even more, because he will stay in England - and probably would get Spurs to at least 50-50, if not better.

So - longwinded way of saying, I think Levy is making the right call here - either Bayern step up with a massive bid, or Spurs gamble on being able to convince Kane to stay between now and next summer.
This is wildly optimistic sadly. There's no way Barcelona, RM, Bayern won't be in for him next summer on a free transfer. I'd even wager City being interested. Then less likely but you can't rule out Newcastle, Man Utd & Liverpool should they also continue to build on previous seasons.

Those are the teams we're competing with. At the very least I think we'll need something like CL football and perhaps a final of a cup with good football and good vibes around the club to be in with a shout, and even then it's not all that likely imo.

Bayern Munich have seen latest offer for Harry Kane rejected by Tottenham. After proposals in June + July turned down #FCBayern were £25m short of #THFC valuation. Talks last week led to improved bid but that has now been knocked back too

Looks like we will know before the end of the week then either way. The ITK re the 1 year extension option changes things significantly for me rather than risking him going for nothing to a rival. I think virtually every 1 of us would be very happy with that at this stage if he agrees to that.

I do hope its resolved by the weekend so I don't have to spend part of the 10 days of my Majorca holiday from 20th -30th August repeatedly refreshing and reading this thread !! (y)

The true sign that this is serious Laporte/Tapsoba, Kuani plus Veliz along with a proper clearout - if we don't change the things around HK, the problem is going to keep recurring.

Make him want to stay, DL has a chance to at least try to make things right.

Any mummerings (not read every one of the last 20 pages) that the trip to Miami wasn't just a holiday?

Well - if Kane scores 25 PL goals this season - that would put him 22 away from the record - and at that point I don't think he leaves England. So that takes Barça, RM, and Bayern out of the equation.

City don't go after "old" players, and have no reason to care about sentimentality. United is probably the one team Spurs would compete with - but, it would not be a given that Kane would leave a competitive Spurs even for a competitive United.

And, I don't think any team will offer a long-term deal that will be better than what Spurs offer.

Unpopular opinion but I'd be lying if I said I didn't think this was a mistake. I'm not sure what it is that we can realistically achieve this season that gets him to commit, not even sure top four (which I don't think we'll get) would do it. As nice as it is to have him for a little longer, in the long-term it'll hurt like hell if he leaves and doesn't go abroad, not sure that trade-off is worth it but we'll see.
He could just as easily go to Munich for a year and then come back to the prem for another team. No guarantee he stays there long term.

Could get his trophy, claim homesickness etc. Not happy and get his move.

At least this way we get 1 more year of him

Telegraph saying Levy didnt like the structure of the offer, but it is Matt Law.

He's a bellend but his info is generally decent.

Also chimes with one of the ITKs suggesting Levy wanted most of the money up front and Bayern wanted to pay it over 3 years.

So this is pretty much confirmation in a less concise way what I said in my earlier post.
Not really. Nothing to say that Levy will definitely agree to sell if his contract offers aren’t accepted. Those offer mitigate the risk but that doesn’t mean he isn’t happy to assume complete risk of losing him for free but still trying to persuade him in the meantime
