Perryman/Mabbutt - The only truely one of our own
Greaves - Greatest pure Goalscorer possibly ever
Blanchflower - founder member of greatness
Dave Mackay - just because....
Gazza - nearest to Genius since Hoddle
Hoddle - Pure Genius

My be unpopular but I'd take any of these against Kane and always would have
This also shows that we have such a history of generational defining players. This was the first thing the club should’ve done after that stadium was built: statues in the vicinity of the ground.

Kane just didn't really get that emotional connection going for me.
Yes, he was great and I thoroughly enjoyed him being here, watching him grow and progress but I just didn't get the feels with him.

Hard to explain why but then, emotions are always hard to understand.

There are some players that you just instantly connect with, even if they're not at the club for a long time, like VdV, Ginola, Daws and even the likes of Freund.
It's like they get the club and feel what the fans feel but I've never really got that with Kane.
I was actually more sad when Lamela left.

Always forget the goalies 🤦‍♂️ so many greats, Kane wouldn't even make my Top 10

Me also. From my favourite position behind The Paxton or at any of the away matches I went to up and down the land - PJ was a great watch in his prime !

Dave Mackay wants a word…
I was only responding to the examples given. And even then forgot Mabbs.
MacKay definitely.
To be fair, I think there are quite a few that were as good if not better players than Harry Kane and/or who deserve legendary status for other reasons (Stevie P not only a fantastic player, over such a long period of time but dragging us through matches, helping us over the line in cups)

"To suit both teams"

Sure. Because Leipzig definitely want to ensure their opponents are able to register one of the world's best players in time to face them.
"Hey Leipzig, you let us register Kane in time for the Super Cup and we'll let you sell us your best player next summer for half his market value. Deal?"

As far as the best players to have represented the club he's on the top table, that's for sure, as is, most certainly, a player few seem to mention when posting (perhaps it's an age thing) and that's Dave Mackay.

BUT 'being the best' doesn't necessarily make him - or anyone else for that matter - a legend. Personally, as much as I adored Gascoigne, he wasn't here long enough for me to put him the category of Mackay, Blanchflower, Hoddle, Mabbutt, Perryman, King, Anderton, Ardiles etc. Same with Modric, Bale, and Ginola. Son is more likely to be remembered in the same way as those guys I consider legends, in that he so clearly bleeds Tottenham. For a start, look at how he is with staff, fellow players and us - the bloody fans! He could have moved this close season, yet he shut it down straight away with a definite 'I've got unfinished business here'.

By contrast, the impression I always had when watching Harry was that there was a hint of detachment to him that the best often have. He was a brilliant player for us, don't get me wrong, but he never struck me as someone wanting to be at the centre of celebrations when other players scored. In fact, I was often struck by his relatively low-key celebrations whenever Bale scored on his return to us, whereas other players were far more fulsome. Maybe that's simply his character, who knows?

I just never walked to the match being excited at the thought of seeing Harry Kane play. Maybe because he was just always so good but in quite a robotic kind of way.

Gazza, Bale, even Ginola and Lennon, hit differently. Pure excitement. And Modric just mesmerised me with his mastery of the ball in ridiculous tight spaces.
I don’t agree about the first point but I get what you mean by ‘always so good’.
And personally I’ve never seen a player be that good for so many years (Bale would’ve been had he stayed as long as Kane, Gazza too).

The other players you name, along with quite a few others I can think of (Waddle, VdV etc) almost epitomise Spurs as a club - world class on their day - but no one ever did it week in, week out, year in, year out like Harry.

Yeah, he's another one that just seemed to bleed Spurs, he got it and showed it on the pitch.
Not one of our greatest ever players but had something that made him one of us.

I still love the fact that he had a blue and white Santa turn up at his house for Christmas. 🤣

Don't listen to the new View from the lane that just dropped.

It's a good listen but left me pretty emotional (in relative terms befire all you real men jump on it) and down about the whole thing

It's weird, I remember when Bale left I was immediately like I REALLY hope we see him back in a Spurs shirt again. (Pity it was under the circumstances at the time)

With Harry though, I'm not really bothered. Maybe it's because he gave us many good years in his pomp.
Yeah Bale was just reaching his peak when he left. Kane was in his peak whilst he was here.
Will be interesting to see how he adapts in a team that haven’t been set up primarily to play to his strengths

Done with this thread now. On to the future.
is there a way to mute a thread.. agree looking in here is just torturing ourselves now time to forget he exists apart from england duties until he retires. Shouldn't be hard with him playing in the bundesliga.....(no one cares about it Harry nobody that isn't german.) and with us not in europe.

I appreciate that, which is why I’d deleted it before I saw your reply!

Nevertheless, any list of all-time-great Spurs players loses credibility if it doesn’t include the greatest of them all!

I've been racking my brain to think if he ever kissed/pointed to the badge. I know Son and Moura have done it in the past, but unsure about Kane.

Maybe I am childish to believe in these silly gestures, but I always found it strange that he never did it.
