And we happen to have one in Ndombele.
Let's wait to see if Ndombele can pick up the pace of play after adjusting before we anoint him. Winks, right now, is the better player IMO but I admit that may change in the future. Winks was also great against Palace so I am hoping that we start getting that level more consistently.

Rice is 3 years younger than Winks. If he keeps fit and focused he can become some player. Turned into a monster as well and I’ve seen Rice have a few fantastic games on TV

Winks in terms of game time is probably not a million miles away from Rice although he’s 3 years older. The problem for Harry though is that he’s had all these injuries and Poch spoke of him having a 'chronic injury that needs managing'

I think Winks is also a fantastic prospect but for me he’s playing in 2nd & 3rd gear due to his injury and him trying to stay 'fit'

He’s played some amazing games for us and those that think he’s not all that could probably write all they know about football on the back of a stamp!

Fingers crossed for HW

Seen Rice have some good games but I’ve seen him have some shitters too. He’s been very, very, very average for England. Not what we need imo but Southgate will learn the hard way I feel. He’s not mobile enough to compete at the top level

I’m convinced he’s potentially a top class centre half but English people seem to have an obsession with turning any defender who’s good on the ball into a midfielder. Barry was the prime example, Dier ( who Rice resembles to a degree, well a younger more mobile Dier anyway ) is another and Rice seems to be next.
Shame Stones wasn’t because he can’t defend for shit that’s for certain!!

Rice is probably going to be too big and not athletic enough to play midfield within a year or two, he’s still growing.

On the stones comment I think he should be a defensive midfielder he is good in the tackle and his passing is also good and this occasional cock ups would not be so costly as his errors when in the last line of defence more often lead to goals and he is too error prone to be a centre half.

My concern is, where does Alli fit in? Eriksen Kane and Son anyday imo and with winks ndombele and lo celso, Alli becomes surplus.....:X3:

He needs to pull his finger out for sure this season.

He had a very good game against Olympiakos. If anything European football suits him better than the league.

He is really good and in the team on merit but he is not a DCM and offers almost zero protection to our CBS through positioning. We concede way too many chances, not because Winks is no good, but because of Poch’s tactics since Winks became a mainstay. If we had a Dembele or a Dier (or a fully fit Wanyama) alongside him we’d be a lot more solid. Basically I’m saying that Winks, Ndombele and Sissoko are not DCMs.

I like his attitude but he doesn't seem to want to pass the ball forwards much or run beyond or he's not capable. In which case (as he's not a DM) what exactly is the point of him?

How much should he pass the ball forward?
He played some lovely fizzed passes forward between the lines and one delightful pass setting Rose free down the left.

Made better use of the ball than the "superior creative passer" Ndombele today but keep telling yourself he can't/doesn't pass forwards.

Could not agree more with this. He did his job all game and then the change happens and low and behold the player brought on to make sure shit doesn't happen doesn't do his job.

If nothing else Winks 'does his job' and it's a shame that there aren't a few more like him. It's not all about fucking youtube highlight passes.

Played well today and he'll start vs Bayern no doubt. But I wonder if three games in a week is a no for Poch and how he'd set up without Winks Dier more of a defensive presence in front of the back four or change of formation to put in another attacker?

Getting better with every game.

Feeling he belongs in the team is giving him more confidence and with that confidence comes more expressive play.

Keep it up Harry.

One point today where Serge had given the ball away quite high up and Winks sprinted about 50 yards past Serge like he wasn't there, seems to be getting quicker with every game as he gets back to full fitness.
