Didn't realize that Sampdoria are likely to get relegated this season. Only have 9 points all season and are 8 points away from 17th place (who have a game in hand).

I didn't watch the game yesterday, but looks like he was one of only a few good performance for them.

They just can't score goals. Top scorer is on 2....

Winks has looked good when he has played

Good news if it helps us move him on. He’s not terrible and should be playing PL football somewhere. Another player who seems to have had injuries hanging about for ages.

I'm not sure the PL is for him.
He could stay in Italy or go to Spain.

He would get a bit more time on the ball there.

Only 1 year left on contract in the summer so will definitely be sold then.

A good and injury free spring should help us get a reasonable fee.

I think if he keeps up the level of performance he’s been showing lately he will have plenty of suitors in Italy (probably Spain, too).

Not just pass forward and move. He does it with pace. He probably would still struggle with the press and lack of space in the premiership. Always helps when you have quality technical players around him with the same mindset and abilty.

This is it for me, he looks tidy passing it about very deep/under less pressure, but for our team/league we need midfielders who are much more press resistant and know how to box out players on the turn, have the physicality to hold them off. along with the feet to maneouvre of the tight space and get us on the attack.

Its what makes the likes of dembele/bentancour and even bissouma (though the latter yet to find his feet) on a different level.

It looks as if the hesitancy has gone at last. With it has gone the fear of progressive passing and the tendency to play with his head down and thus not see passing opportunities..

Ever since his initial severe injury, Winks never did anything without fear and without thinking twice, which made his attacking play next-to-useless. The problem was always mainly in his head and, if he has shaken off the inhibitions, there's a good player there, for a variety of European clubs.

Happy to see him playing well and I, like most of us have given him shit in the past.
Maybe his last surgery has finally sorted him out? Maybe the change of scenery has taken him out of his comfort zone and made him work harder, possibly appreciate what he has?
Whatever the reasons may be, I'm glad to see him playing like I used to have so much hope that he could.

Hope he's enjoying the game again because for his last year or two here, that really didn't seem to be the case.

To be honest I think that was a failry typical Winks performance. He's one of those players that will always look decent in "every touch during the game" edits. His problem isn't on the ball in the middle of the park. The issue with Winks is that off the ball he can look like statue and in the final third he offers very little. Throughout his career he's always averaged a high number of passes per game, with high accuracy and despite being seen as a crab, he does actually player a fair amount of decent forward passses. But he's so easy to go pass in midfield that he might aswell not be there and hardly offers anything in terms of goals, assists or defence splitting passes. So he's not effective as a DM or box to box CM.

I just don't think his game ever developed. He's kind of like the Tim Henman of CM's. He's got some style, but you know he lacks the killer instinct to ever do anything. I think a combination of bad luck with injuries and poor management from Poch restricted Winks development at the key stage in his career. When he needed to be playing every week, in the 3 seasons from 16/17 to 18/19, he was a bit part player and a bit of boy among men. Poch kept him at the club, when he should have been playing in the Championship.

Liking tweets about spurs losing whilst still being a contracted player (and boyhood fan) isn’t exactly going to help any abuse he gets though is it?

Are you saying he cant like tweets? What am i reading?
