It’s horrible isn’t it. It’s like something from a Halloween film. They quoted his mother who said “My heart has been cut in half” which is clearly distasteful had anyone else said it and she will forever cringe at using that choice of language. Not her fault obviously but someone should have said perhaps use some other metaphor.

Obviously feel bad for the dead player and his family, but how must the other guy be feeling? That’ll probably fuck his life up pretty badly.

A freak accident where everyone loses.

It was recorded, i saw the video on some Australian news channel.

really odd coming together, looks almost like he was drop kicked. (Looks like the other player was trying to block him or something but an odd body movement nonetheless)

There's been a couple close calls in the NHL. Really sad to see the outcome here.

Who cares what metaphor his mum used, weird thing to make a point about.

I’ll make sure I never see the footage. Utterly terrible. I’ve watched ice hockey for most of my life and I’ve always been amazed that there aren’t more bad skate blade injuries, but this is just something else. Horrific.

Not sure where you’ve seen that but that’s not what she said

She was quoted on the radio bulletin I was listening to.
Presume they’ve got it from the post on Facebook where the Mum/Aunt said “I lost half of my heart today”.
Probably the media not bothering to research, not that any of this really matters.

Shocking incident. I dont want to say it was deliberate kick, but it sure as hell looks like it from the footage.

IH fans are saying he could be up for manslaughter.

I stopped short of saying it's deliberate but it's a very unnatural movement.

Looked more than just a freak accident to me, this video just shows the build up to the incident

He appears to be kicked twice.

If you look you can see the first impact and then a second blow where his head goes back.

It was an unfortunate accident. IIRC something similar happened in the NHL to Richard Zednik (who thankfully survived) years back.

yep, Zednick had his carotid sliced by a skate. They were able to get control of the bleeding at the arena somehow. It sounds like this poor fellow bled out before they could get control of it.

Two times in NHL

1) Clint Malarchuk - survived because the trainer was a former combat medic and performed quick thinking maneuvers that saved Malarchuk's life.
2) Richard Zednik - lucky paramedics were on site to administer aid and get him to a hospital. But he wasn't close to death compared to Malarchuk. Still very fortunate to have quick medical attention.

It's crazy NHL still does not mandate neck guards. But now they are talking about it. Long past due. Game too fast nowadays.
