It's sickening actually to see how agents/third party owners are getting hold of more and more of the money in football. And it makes football lose a lots of it's charm.
Not claiming direct knowledge of this but I think that it's not as straight forward as this article says - I think it's even more murky. I wouldn't be surprised if the the people directly involved with the clubs themselves are part of screwing "their" clubs for money.

Its awful, its human trafficking (well almost). FIFA need to ban 3rd party involvement now.

I cannot believe his dad managed to get €40 million?? That can't be right. How on earth could an agent ever be entitled to receive that much of the fee? If that figure is accurate it's as good as Barcelona saying to Neymar himself, "okay we'll pay you €40 million to sign for us and we'll also pay you several million a year to play for us". It just doesn't seem correct. I mean Santos have been totally and utterly screwed over by the deal. Why would they agree to it?

Not claiming I know the answer but it could well be that Neymar & his cronies simply told deal or no deal...and if no deal there will be other clubs accepting their terms.

This is the problem, agents, especially when it's a family member hold ALL the cards. They're the gate keepers, all dealings have to go through them.
So if Barca wanted to sign Neymar they had to go through his Dad, his Dad clearly isn't stupid and made an astronomical amount of money for doing little more than passing on information and a contract to his son.

There aren't many people who wouldn't do the same thing given the opportunity

You have to assume there was a good degree of negotiation to get to those final figures so it makes you wonder how much Neymar and his dad were initially asking for. And anyway, how does the agent hold the power? All they do is negotiate between parties and relay information. They don't own anything and by rights should only be entitled to a relatively modest fee for their efforts. Surely Santos hold the power. I mean they owned 55% of the player anyway.

Yet another reason why I am increasingly falling out of love with football.

Christ, that article is just ridiculous. The money is insane, no wonder we couldn't land Leandro after so many years of trying. Really don't think we'll get Bernard either because of things like this.

Yet people argue that without 3rd party then clubs wouldn't be able to afford the players. Which is bs as without it the prices would come down for less known players and with the 40m santos could buy as many replacements as they wanted.

Now with less than 10m they will again have to rely on 3rd party.
