I am pretty sure that Chelsea were playing for the free kicks (not saying they weren't free kicks) but they did seem to go down even when they had the chance to regain/ keep control of the ball ninety-percent of the time for that reason, to exploit our weakness.

Can someone email this to AvB quickly?

Imagine if there really was a way of emailing AVB directly?!

He would get so many messages from FM fans trying to tell him where he is going wrong and what he should do to fix it.

If AVB doesn't address this prior to Sunday we can kiss top 4 goodbye

he tried to already but Ade was half hearted in his attempt to attack the ball and missed it completely

But Ade made up for it with his performance in the rest of the game I just wish them performances weren't few and far between

Without even reading the article a solution to our problems is to play Caulker, with Vertonghen at LB. Will solve a few issues, one being corners, the other being BAE and Naughton being bloody useless.

our back five against a team like Stoke should be

Lloris
Walker Dawson Caulker Vertonghen.

Caulker isn't bad in the air and IMO a better organizer then Dawson or Vertonghen

We have had a weakness on corners for years, even through the days of Harry. But this man marking with no people on posts is just stupid, it makes no sense whatsoever.

Gareth Bale is the wrong man to be protecting that area just in front of the front post, he isn't brave enough. He has rotated that person a little but none of them have done their job and it is the most important role from a defensive perspective on a corner. Basle away was a prime example, ignoring Friedel's fumble.

AVB definitely needs to get a grip of this. Vertonghen and Dawson are both slack at times, as are others. Dawson lets Cahill get away from him for the first goal. But what I couldn't believe was that he did it again for the next corner 25.10 mins.

Kaboul and Sandro, to some extend would help with our weakness at set pieces. Kaboul is a beast in the air and Sandro is so strong players find it hard to get away from him.

As others have said though, Caulker in at CB and Verts at LB is something we should consider for Stoke as they will most likely have 10+ corners and numerous free kicks for dubious fouls.

Not a bad idea for Stoke I guess

Clearly we need to spend a lot of hours on the training ground on this but, given the timeframe and our next opponents, it seems to me that we can fix a lot by being completely unsophisticated. Half of it seems to be lack of bodies and misreading the weight of the ball and running out of position

Wall of steel of our tallest players - Ade, Bale, Dawson, Vertonghen, Hudd, Caulker - on the 3 yard line for every corner. Stand their ground rather than go with attackers, except if the ball is clearly going further out - closer to the penalty spot. Leave Lloris to clear up behind them with one of the next tier of height players on each post e.g. Walker (not Scotty because he seems to lack the discipline to actually stay there).

Holtby, Benny, Scotty generally in the area around the spot to close down any rebounds. Lennon and Dembele further out, ready to get the ball on the break and leg it

Am I over-simplifying ? Probably but fook me....they seem entirely avoidable

Good piece and an area we need to improve on obviously, however we defended a lot of other corners pretty well on Wednesday night.

You have to worry about us from set peices on Sunday against Stoke!
Exactly, if we don't address this against Stoke we will need to score at least 3 or 4 to stand any chance of winning the game, because we seem to give any opposition several opportunities in these situations and we all know that Stoke are past masters at taking advantage in these situations.

It's no use letting all the good work of scoring go to waste if its completely thrown away defending corners and free kicks. COYS come on AVB lets sort it out now !!!!

Verts is learning and new to the league. He will settle and improve.

At least I hope so - many positive signs there. And hopefully he will be played entirely in his favoured central position next year alongside Kaboul.

As for Stoke, I hope LLoris accidentally punches Huths head off. By mistake. Of course.
