Football Writers decided he's their player of the year.. but..

John Cross ‏@johncrossmirror 14m14 minutes ago Enfield, London
I voted for N'Golo Kante. There was a whole host of Leicester players. In another year, Harry Kane could have won it

Phil McNulty ‏@philmcnulty 5m5 minutes ago Oxford, England
As mentioned the superb N'Golo Kante got my @theofficialfwa vote - but congratulations to Leicester team-mate Jamie Vardy on his award.

Rob Draper ‏@draper_rob 4m4 minutes ago
I voted for @Mahrez22 but a very worthy winner

Oliver Kay ‏@OliverKayTimes 10m10 minutes ago
Vardy is @theofficialfwa Footballer of the Year. Kante got my vote

Lee Clayton ‏@LeeClayton_ 15m15 minutes ago
I voted for Mahrez but Vardy's goals have propelled #LCFC to the title. Close call.

Henry Winter ‏@henrywinter 18m18 minutes ago
Congratulations to @vardy7 on being named @theofficialfwa Footballer of the Year. (I voted for N’Golo Kante). #lcfc #FOTY16

so, um.. no one here voted for him? but he won?

I appreciate it's just a handful, but they are lining up to say they didn't vote for Vardy.

Ah, F365 did the same thing: http://www.football365.com/news/jamie-vardy-chat-sht-get-handed-award

Leicester forward Jamie Vardy has been voted the 2016 Footballer of the Year by the Football Writers’ Association, despite most writers denying voting for him.

The England international topped the poll of 290 journalists with 36 per cent of the vote, a clear winner ahead of team-mates Riyad Mahrez and N’Golo Kante.

Apparently Danny Simpson got more votes than Alderweireld.

Alderweireld didn't get any votes.

If they had the balls, the relevant association would make these football writer votes public like they do in the NBA.

I still believe that this fairytale will crash and burn and it'll be glorious.

I think this says a lot about the press in England.

PFA vs. FWA awards:

PFA = players vote for someone who makes their job difficult.

FWA = writers vote for someone who makes their job easy.

Makes sense.

Most sports journalists are clueless, so yeah I guess if you gather a bunch of them together and they vote on something you can guarantee the outcome will be moronic.

Mahrez has been much better than Vardy as has Kante.

This will be the same journalists who will be on his back in 6 months time as he goes on a run of 10 games withou scoring as Leicester slip into the relegation zone. ;)

To be fair, he's clearly the best player in the division. He's got 22 goals. That's an incredible achievement. I mean, could you imagine another striker topping that by, say, 2 goals in the same amount of games?

There are some factors to consider here
1) he did it for a team that no one fancies ( Ageuro and Kane have plenty of backup for assists)
2) he beat the goal scoring record of n consecutive goals - whilst playing for Leicester
3) he came from nowhere to achieve that - unlike Kane and Ageuro
4) his goals have likely won Leicester City the league - that's right, LCFC
5) Scored an incredible goal for England
6) the award Is from Football Writers. - the ones at need a story to write about.

It's graceless to deny Vardy his moment here. A fair & reasonable selection for the award. You don't have to agree with it to recognise its legitimacy.

These Sunday supplement "journos" were the type who used to get picked last on the playground when choosing players for your team, and at worst, the type who would stand from afar, picking at their sandwich in angst, imagining what it would be like to actually kick a football. Its why they are so agenda driven, they see someone with similar traits to the guy who used to embarass them on the playground and they've never forgotten it and it's why I wouldn't pay a single bit of attention to what they say.

funny, then, that very few are admitting to voting for him. The opposite, in fact.

It's also disappointing that so many of the writers, and I really mean the vast majority, have spoken out about racism in the game. Yes, he's had a great season and is part of a great story... but the casino incident, the recent red card. They are very happy to ignore the context surrounding his season, which is amusing because when you watch them on Sunday Supplement they are super keen to show how smart and insightful they are with the behind the scenes name dropping.

I don't really want to go on and on about this, so here's a sample and you can check the rest out yourselves.

What chance is there for anti racism campaigns in this country when a top football club denies the obvious? Embarrassing. Well done, FA.

Richly deserved, record breaker, a driving force for Leicester's title charge...

I'm not making excuses. Racism at any level, at any club, aimed at any individual is totally unacceptable and a stain on society and sport.

Also graceless for a racist to be given any form of award but you know, let's not let something like morals get in the way of a good story of "rags to riches"

I'm gonna get slaughtered here but ffs guys do you really think he's a racist??? Really???
I know he made a racist comment and thats wrong but does that make him a racist?
It makes him an idiot imo but a racist? No.
So please stop going on about it because frankly it just comes across as bitter jealously rather than actual outrage of an out and out racist.
He probably has more friends from different countries and of different religions than 90% of the people on here.
edit, if theres more to this racist tag than I'm aware of I apologise and will provide hammer, nails and wood :)

edit2, to nail up Vardy not me.

Proves a point. People want to be seen as being anti-racism rather than actually wanting to do anything about it. Complete hypocrisy

You get the impression of Vardy that if he wasn't a professional footballer he'd be that bloke in the far corner of Wetherspoons, chucking his wages into the fruit machine day-after-day, making his half-pint last an hour.

Writers will look for the player that is the story of the season, I have no issue with that.
Bit boring if the three big awards went to same player. Players, writers, and the panel (official player of the year) will all look for different things in their award. Reckon the final award also will go to Leicester sadly.
