This is a stupid rumour and I shall tell you why. Tottenham Hotspur is a bigger and better club than Napoli. The latter may have been punching above their weight over the last few seasons but it's mainly due to Mazzarri's tactical aptitude (adopting the very effective 3-5-2) and the emergence of Cavani, and to a lesser extent Hamsik.

Yes, they may be in the Champions League and finished 2nd this year, but the Italian league is a weaker league (and this is coming from an Italian!). They're not good enough to get far in the CL next year, and look likely to sell their biggest player since Maradona. Vertonghen will not be leaving us for a club like Napoli, it's not a step up in his career.

Agreed. Certainly not moving there at this time of his career, especially he had just had a good season (the best XI) in the EPL. ;) Not sure if Napoli is anywhere near having their stadium filled...

They've had decent attendance over the last couple of years due to their recent success, but the only stadium in Italy that gets a regular high attendance (90% plus) is the Juventus Stadium. They built it with a small capacity of 41,000 based on the fact that not enough fans are going to games in Italy, and to create more of an atmosphere by having the fans sit closer to the pitch. They would rather pack out a smaller stadium and ensure a great atmosphere than have a half-filled massive stadium. Funnily enough, they were talking about this on Italian TV the other night. A few big clubs like Inter and Lazio are thinking of breaking away and building their own stadia which will most likely follow the Juve strategy of having a smaller stadium that they can pack out.

It's a bit strange really. Here we are looking to expand on our seemingly low 36,000 attendance by building a bigger stadium and clubs in Italy are looking to do the opposite. The economic situation in Italy means a lot of fans can't afford to go to games, especially since Italian TV shows a lot more games live than over here, and for less money too. Also, a lot of stadia in Italy are unpopular due to athletic tracks and fans sitting far away from the action, a product of the Italia '90 renovations.

a couple of good points, mate. I believe it's the supply/demand thingy determines club actions. EPL clubs has been investing a lot through buying hottest players which attracts a lot of attendence. But more importantly, EPL games generates huge broadcasting revenue to clubs which allow them to do so, and it has been the case for many years (since the eighties when it was not yet called the EPL i believe). Every weekend during the season, EPL draws a lot of attention not just in the UK but also worldwide. EPL in Asia is still the most favorable sports programme (thanks to David Beckam who attracted a lot of girls' focus, and apparently guys have to bloody watch the matches so as to explain to the girls what's going on:sneaky:).

Also, there is a cultural factor on how local fans behave, general practice for football fans to attend, not only to watch the team they support but also games against ManUtd, Chelsea, etc who have a lot of Big Names attracts more attendance (Big games). Also ease of transport is another issue. Good accessability to stadia means more supporters are willing to spend their time attending matches. As I remember there is somewhere a thread somewhere in this forum mentioned our season ticket waiting list is like 40,000+. Don't think it is the same situation in Italy though.

athletic track wise... I believe this is one of the issues we failed to negotiate and why we are not taking the London Bowl, right?

Juve fans don't turn up because they get all the scores with the fixtures in August.

Although I appreciate the humour you'll find Juve have suffered for their sins and appear to be on the straight and narrow. They were the only club to completely renew its personnel once found guilty. No one else involved has, and to this day Inter have still gotten away with it.

Italian football was and probably still is corrupt, but at least we're aware of it. It's what we don't know about our own league that scares me.

I used to follow Juve as a kid, no need to tell me off.
I was saddened when they got busted. Only Italian team with two gold stars. They'd have 3 if not for the scandals.

Right now, Verts must be worth at least 20 million pounds.

I'd say he's worth more than £20 million. He's a very good defender, but he's also a leader and a calming influence at the back and that makes him special.

Jan's just 26 and relies on his reading of the game rather than pace. So he could play at the top level for at least another 6-7 years.

For every overpriced flop- take a bow David Bentley and Alan Hutton - some good players have become great at Spurs in recent years.

The likes of Carrick, Modric, Berbatov and Verts were already established players in their home leagues when we bought them, and then more than doubled their transfer market value playng for the mighty Spurs.

Not having a go at all mate, it's just I get frustrated when people think of Juve as crooks. They're one of the best European sides of all time and it's such a shame that prick Moggi ruined the reputation of the club.

Regardless, hopefully it's be 3 stars next year!

8th most successful team in europe based on number of trophies.

Used to love them when they had superstars like Ravanelli etc.

Really? Surprised at 8th. After United, Bayern, Liverpool, Barca and Real I can't think of any other clubs. Maybe from the weaker European leagues?

Italy don't have the equivalent of a League Cup either so less chance of winning trophies.
