Ooooooooooh

But also...there isn't any hypocrisy in what I've said at all.

If you're admitting you worded in badly then fair enough.
Fact is I clarified what my position was because you'd pointed that out, so you knew that already. And yeah there is.

Barton is right in saying she isn't a good pundit, but he is wrong with regards to his reasoning.

I haven't once said that Trix or anyone else agrees with Barton on everything and I definitely wouldn't suggest that Trix believes all female commentators are terrible because they are women. Trix has been very clear that he thinks Barton is a prick.

But when you use phrases such as 'Barton isn't wrong though' you are, in my opinion, partially backing up the prick in question.

I know it's a huge cliche to drop the H-bomb, but if someone said, "Yes Hitler was a prick, but he wasn't wrong about [x]"...there isn't a word that can be put in place of that X that makes it okay.
I don't think that is a necessary comparison at all.

It felt like the implication was simply that Trix was saying Joey was generally right and that he was doing the dangerous thing of ‘backing’ him to a higher degree than what I felt he was. I of course, could have read too much into it.

It just didn’t feel comfortable to me that it seemed someone was being painted in a light that I didn’t feel was fair was all.

The second part I’ll leave as yes cliche but also a bit of an unnecessary comparison (to me anyway).

I like a lot of both of your posts, I just felt a lot of that conversation didn’t sit right with me is all 👍.

Barton is right in saying she isn't a good pundit, but he is wrong with regards to his reasoning.
Barton's initial quote on all of this was:

"How is she even talking about men's football. She can't even kick a ball properly. Your coverage of the game EFC last night took it to a new low. Eni Aluko and Lucy Ward, the Fred and Rose West of football commentary."

I don't even think he's said that she isn't a good pundit.

He's just unleashed unfounded, factually incorrect, misogynistic abuse.

So whilst I know you're trying to draw a line down the middle here, I'm not sure it's actually possible because what of any of that quote above can be considered 'right' (other than far-right maybe).

I'll be honest, I haven't really read the full quote in context - I tend avoid things where Joey Barton is involved these days.

He is clearly implying she's not a good pundit, and given ridiculous reasoning like she can't kick a ball properly. And he speaks about taking the coverage to a new low. Again, not exactly bigging her up as a good pundit is he? He knows what he is doing. And then finishing it off with the serial killers reference. He is blatantly implying she (and other women) are not good pundits/commentators for male football.

Yes obviously the implication is there but it's not the main thrust of what he's saying if we're trying to suggest he is somehow 'right'.

As I and others have said, if he'd said anything close to 'I don't think she's a good pundit' then at least there's an argument to be had.

But he's not saying that. The clear message from what he's said is that all women are terrible pundits...and it's because they are women.

Which is why, again, I wouldn't say he's 'right' at all.

Anyway that's enough about the stupid tit. Fundamental point is that he's a nasty nasty piece of work and people like him having any sort of platform is a large part of why this country is a pretty shit place to be a lot of the time.

I appreciate you're opinion on this matter , and you can see that you feel very strongly about this subject. I'd like to think that the vast majority of posters on here would agree with you BUT the way you're going about it isn't doing you any favours mate to be honest

I'll be honest I don't really care about doing myself any favours.

People can agree or disagree with what I've said but as you said it's something I feel strongly about and I'm therefore happy to use strong words in expressing it.

Nedum Onuoha gives his own opinions on Joey Barton as he played with him for 7 seasons across two subs. Really enlightening, and not favourable to Barton one bit. **Joey Barton bits start at around 1:13:34**

Sn: This entire interview is good. Onuoha talks about his career, and experience with Mancini, his frustration with football pundits' laziness, his time at QPR as well as his time in the MLS and spat with Zlatan while there.

Sn2: Onuoha is a breath of fresh air in punditry, he's honest, level-headed and clearly thinks through and eloquently articulates his answers. He's also not swayed when a panel is trying to push an agenda he doesn't agree with. We need more like him in the game but unfortunately it's a strong fraternity and this interview likely won't earn him many friends there, not that he particularly cares tbf

Christ, I thought he'd at least contextualised it, but he's literally just gone "who's someone bad that I can say to be edgy". Just an absolute melt. The Slobodan Milosevic of football.

Enjoyed this a lot - Nedum's confidence to not be deterred or dilute his point is really impressive. Also nice when your assumptions about people behind the scenes are backed up (in this case the Wrights continue to be good blokes and Redknapp's a knob).

And fucking hell the "went real quiet when it became about black people being on" because he's not scared of women but he is of black guys is so apt.

Spot on mate.. we need more like him in the game. Also his insight into the monthly VAR video conference meetings that pundits refuse to attend, yet those same pundits then commentate to bash VAR rather than have constructive discussions to improve it.

Yeah I really like Onouha, he does very well on Football Weekly IMO. Nothing very surprising there although the racism and anti-foreigner stuff is a bit eyebrow raising.

Well as long as you don't tell him we'll be fine.

I'll be honest, I've never understood the all or nothing rhetoric I find on here sometimes. I find it strange that people can't seem to hold multiple viewpoints within a specific topic. it's either X is bad Y is Good and nothing in between, and if you dare to offer that varied opinion you are lumped into "you must be....." basket. It's all very much "what have the Romans ever done for us" imo.
Says the man who loves to put people on ignore because they've said something he doesn't like or agree with?!
It surely must go both ways mate.

He comes across extremely well, only watched from your stamp point for about 20 minutes, but he'd be an upgrade on Sky's pundits straight away. I liked his point about Gary Neville and the rest commentating on their own team, and almost bringing a downer on alot of games simply because it doesn't fit their narrative etc. The Ally Mcoist reference was also good, never really thought about it but it's true what he says.

Also, regarding the twat that is Joey Barton, by you guys going back and forth debating what he's said is right or wrong, you're just fulfilling exactly what he wanted from the get go... To be relevant.. No ones talked about the prick for years, he feels irrelevant, so posts a few hateful tweets knowing EXACTLY what he's doing, next minute he's doing an interview with the other knobhead Piers Morgan and everyones talking about him..

Happens everytime someone semi famous wants attention, they do or say something controversial and get exactly what they want, and people fall for it every bloody time

If we all just thought of them as toddlers and ignored them, they'd stop doing it.

Barton is a detestable human, a big stinking pile of spunk. He’s latched onto something he knows a lot of people have been speaking about, women being pundits on men’s football, it does upset people and largely for the wrong reasons.

My thoughts on it, for what it’s worth. I would much much rather have a panel of pundits who are recently retired players/coaches who have worked along side, played with or against the players they are talking about. I couldn’t give a monkeys how well they come across as a personality, I want real proper first hand insight into a sport..they don’t need to recite Shakespeare, just give me the inside knowledge that’s valuable. So yes if I’m watching men’s premier league football I want a ex premier league footballer dissecting it.
Same goes with women’s football, I want to see women talking about the game they have been involved with since they have played with or against the players they are talking about.

Commentators I really don’t care as I don’t pay much attention, same goes for hosts of sports shows, doesn’t matter who you are just be a good anchor.
