I got the timeline of Ndombele wrong and we can go over the tedius bits about the Lo Celso deal if you want. But the fact we bought a player for a lot of money that Jose wanted anyway is hardly something to support him not being backed.

The point I was responding to was about Jose not being backed. Since he joined we have spent around £130m on players with around £12m outgoings. If on leaving Jose is unhappy about his time at Tottenham it should not be about him not being backed in the transfer market.
The whole toxic nature of his tenure is enough for me to want him long gone. We fucked up massively with his appointment and we are getting what most predicted. His time at United should have flagged a huge red "NO", but this was somehow ignored whilst Levy was being seduced by a busted flush.

Start of the season you're told:
8 games to go

West ham go above you if they win their game in hand
You lost to Arsenal, Chelsea and West Ham in the run in
Gareth Bale has been frozen out after a good run of form
You got embarrassed by Dinamo Zagreb and went out of the EL after being 2-0 up

You don’t know anything else, do you take it?
Exactly my point... Isn't it incredible though. I would have probably taken my option, mad season

Its a whole new generation of players these days. what worked 20 years ago likely wont work today. I think the "my way or the highway" days are gone.
Good points and I completely agree we need a top centre back but I personally think Hojbjerg is good enough to be our midfield enforcer. For me, we need a creative midfielder alongside Hojbjerg.

I think Phil-spur99 hit the nail on the head when he said we overrated our players. They aren't as good as we think.
We have good players, we need someone to figure out how to use them. We're all sitting around trying to figure out how to fit the current squad into Poch's system, but there are other systems that a creative manager could design around the squad we have.

Well lets be honest they didn't really show it today. Le Celso did nothing of note and nor did NDombele.
Ndombele probably has better stats useful for midfielder than 2 combined Newcastle midfielders. And let's not forget he had an assist.

you're ahead of Liverpool on goal difference
You beat United 6-1 away
Kane is leading goals and assist
You're also in the cup final

You don't know anything else... Do you take it?
Why the head banging. I'm not saying we should be happy. I'm saying it's a crazy thought cos you'd assume we are top

No idea how that is a response to my post but I generally agree with you.

The point was Jose's most succesful team had a fantastic spine. Pretty much every successful team in the Prem has had that spine.

We can improve and develop what we have but I can't see the current centre backs forming a top quality partnership. We're going to need to buy a top quality centre back if we want to be solid at the back.

Jose should be doing better with what he has but he can;t make a midfield enforcer out of what he currently has at his disposal. We'll need to buy it.
He literally wanted Hojbjerg. He bought him.

A CB no matter how good -VVD or Dias - is not gonna transform this directionlees side because the coach plays negative, basic football that’s been long overtaken by other modern coaches and unless you give him 11 of the best players in the world who can pretty much just make it up as they go along it’s gonna be the same dirge we’ve had to endure this year.

for anyone Mourinho in

would you honestly want to give him the funds and chance for another season, at the risk of it being the exact same shit (or better) we have now if it meant we would miss out on the chance to sign one of the most promising up and coming managers ?

They aren't as good as we think they are. Le Celso seems to be a quicker version of Lamela to be me, NDombele isn't actually very creative and really slows our play down. Reguillon has had some good games but Real Madrid aren't going to buy him back based on this season.

Like I said, not sure how is the club backing him when we bought a player who we were obliged to buy anyway?
Just curious as I can’t really work out where did the $130m came from? I thought we only spent around $50m last summer?

Not the highest of bars is it? At the moment, he is a decent premier league midfielder and nothing more.

I didn't say he didn't want Hojbjerg. Hojbjerg has been a very good signing but he needs a defensive minded partner if we are to have that strong spine.

Unless Skipp comes very good that I can't see that spine coming with the current personnel.

A top quality centre back can certinaly make a huge difference to a directionless side. Probably one of the most important elements to direction.

We bought a player Jose wanted. How and why we bought him does not support him not being backed.

January 2020 we bought Bergwijn for £27m.

We spent around £100m in the summer plus the expensive loan of Bale. We also loaned in Vinicius who Jose reportedly wanted.

If Jose left now I fail to see how he can say he wasn't backed in the transfer market. He very clearly has been.

Again, all I can tell you is his shit is old and it’s not gonna have us competing on our budget. This whole experiment was dead on arrival.

I realize JM has forgotten more about football than I ever learned but if a 4-4-2 is all he can come up with when his preferred set-up doesnt work I dont know what to say.
