Counter attacks rule. They're more fun than patiently probing an opponent going from side-to-side across the edge of the box hoping you can create some space in the middle of a packed defence. Just from an aesthetics point of view, I would be perfectly happy to see Spurs playing the kind of football that won Leicester the title in 2015/16, let alone the even more entertaining counter-attacking-on-steroids stuff that Liverpool have been playing for the last 12-18 months.

Counter attacks are way more exciting I totally agree... cant stand the tiki taka stuff (althoguh there is a time and place for it i think)... I think those who are saying we hoof it long etc are not saying it because we want to be entertained what we are seeing is the ball comes back as quickly as we get it.

Today int he first half there were so many moments where we either kicked it long to Son ont he right to head it or to Lucas who whilst can leap like a salmon is not someone who will win aerial duels.

Is thsi a criticism? well yeah but its not because we are going there for entertainment (although who doesnt want to be entertained). I dont think ive used the term boring for example... its more to do with the pressure etc, I do agree with the counter attacking though.

I'm probably reading too much into it but I can't help noticing Gedson politely tapping DIer on the arm to get his attention and Dier completely ignoring him.
I wouldn't read too much into it - 2019/20 Dier has a pretty slow ping.

I’m still laughing of the Sterling situation were Mourinho does not remember that he’s had his first yellow. ???

It's so funny. It clicks with Sacramento about the same time as it does exactly with Jose and they're both off at the official in an instant, smiles dropped.

His constant referring to Son's red card in relation to VAR decisions such as the Sterling one today is brilliant as well. Some will say it lacks class but it's exactly the kind of thing that gets in referees' heads and, over time, gives you an advantage.

Edit: The man with one of the few usernames better than yours has beaten me to it. Nice one @stonecolddeanaustin.
Haha @stonecolddeanaustin is an incredible name! Nearly as special as Jose the spurscial one

I'm getting bored of all this "Jose's a winner" bollox. He was successful elsewhere, because he had the far better tools at his disposal than all his opponents. Here he has a slightly inferior set of tools to work with, which puts him in a position he's rarely faced before..
Is this a joke post?
he won the Europa and CL with Porto!
he won the CL with an aging Inter Milan
yes he had money at Chelsea but he still had to beat man.u and the most successful premier league manager in sir Alex

jose loves being the underdog, he’s a winner and today’s result alone showed everything he is about, buzzing.

Anyone watch his sky interview? Slight dig at Levy for being short of attacking options on bench. Then went on to complain about how short we're going to be in coming weeks because of how quickly games come.

Hope this isn't going to be a common theme in coming weeks. Would of thought he would only be positive after the result so was surprised he went down that route.
I’d take that more of just a statement of fact and reality of our squad situatio. Yes we needed a striker but we also have injuries and we also still have some top class attacking players, it’s also his way of creating a seige mentality by creating a perception that we are fighting an uphill battle.

its like if you were sending troops into battle, you don’t motivate them by saying how good we are and easy it will be, you explain how we have to all dig in and fight toget which squeezes another 10% out of them.

hes fine with levy, it’s a slow rebuild but it’s happening.

He's a staunch Poch loyalist, cant stand the prospect of Jose being successful at Spurs...there's a few of them on here.

Remember how utterly shit United were in Jose's first season there?

They won the Charity Shield, the League Cup and the Europa League, the latter of which qualified them for the next season's CL.

The man is a massive pot of jam, and as we all know jam is fucking delicious.

We near
Errrm, I suggest you watch the game again then mate.

We invited them onto us then hit them on the counter, quite a few times...cant really implement that game plan if we have this sustained possession you seem to crave.
We broke their press several times, I guess you didn't notice all the long balls we used to hit under Poch?
I don't think I will.

Of course I want us to have spells of sustained possession, constantly being in transition isn't a game that suits any other players in our squad than Sissoko. But that doesn't mean we should be trying counter attacks when that makes sense.

And I'm not against long passes, it can be quite effective when we vary our approach.

But why do I want spells of sustained possession? Because it would mean that Son doesn't have to sprint end to end all game, it would mean that we'd be able to pin teams back at times, it would get our attacking players higher up the pitch and allow us to have some periods where Lo Celso, Alli and say Lamela could do some probing. It would let us move our team higher up the pitch and turn the screw on the opponent.

Doesn't mean we can't counter attack.

Same problem exists as far as I can see, when a team decides to bed in we struggle to create and score

Southampton 1- spurs 0
Middlesbrough 1 - spurs 1
Replay 2-1
Watford 0-0
Southampton 1-1

Those aren't all examples of teams bedding in though are they.

You can WTF me all you want @Dr Benson but I'm not sure how a game, for example, where we have had 41% of the possession can be an example of another team bedding in.

This is just it, against City and Liverpool who are head and shoulders above everyone else in the league, they have a system that's so ingrained you just have to batten down the hatches and roll the dice.
On another day we'd have got something against Liverpool, and today it paid off big time.

I wonder if we will be playing it against Leipzig as well? I suspect so. Although a two legged cup tie may require a different approach. It’s the games we are going to miss Kane in the most though I suspect.
