TBF he did achieve point 2 at Porto do he can do it. Also, if memory serves, wasn't there talk a while back of him wanting to take on a more modest/ambitious project? TBF, I am sure that there will have been assurances about money and DL is not dealing with a 'yes' man now. Not in any way saying that Poch was but he was ambiguous in addressing issues whereas Mourinho won't be.
So yeah, we're hoping for 2 then is it? Porto. A different era. Even though the expectations are now set that we compete with the rest of the top 6. Even though our budget is less. A Jose Mourinho being asked to do more than his rivals with less resources...

I'm really sorry, I just don't see it. Some form of option 3, with DLs history seems so likely to of occurred. I guess we'll get this season, maybe he'll get us going again... But it's summer 2020 with this shit will kick off. We need 4 players, CB, LB, RB, DM... I'd love to be a fly on the wall when Jose gives DL his list of players.

Didn't he bring Mctominay through at United?

He'll play the kids if they are good enough as much as any manager does.

Ambitious apointment. Taken a massive hit financially from getting a chunky compensation payout from Madrid/Man U to having to pay Poch off.
Season ticket holders should be feeling a lot less taken for a ride this morning without the feeling of writing off a season.

Respect those who are concerned but weighing it all up I think Jose is the right man for the now on a risk & reward basis.

Exciting show of intent from the club. They are giving it a go it seems which has been a major criticism in the past for not showing the ambition when we were in a position to really challenge.

Scary how much coverage Jose brings. SSN have been all about his appointment for 5 hours. He is box office, Levy will be loving this.

Wait until Saturday or United away, our profile is going to go through the roof over the next few weeks.

Levy knows exactly what he is doing here.

1). Are you happy/pleased/content/relieved or- conversely- are you beyond disgusted now that "The Special One" is taking the reign from Poch?
Relieved yet heartbroken. I loved Poch, but I love this club more and could see that things were not right. Jose is a different type of coach, he will tighten things up and as I said months ago, the thought of a clean sheet gives me the warm fuzzies.

2). Do you think his appointment will be beneficial to us in the short term? How about over the long term?
Short term I think it's a masterstroke. He's got a point to prove and winning things with a team of lesser means than the rest of his competitors will drive him to his best. This will likely result in a more focussed group of players who already have the quality to beat any team in the league. Long term however is a worry. The boom/bust cycle of Jose is well documented and could leave us in the same position we have found ourselves today.

With that said, we know this squad needs freshening up in places and if Jose gets some signing's that he wants we may see a bit more stability beyond the three year period.

3). Do you reckon he will play boring, lockdown, 1-nil to the Tottenham-style football or do you think he'll produce a good product on the pitch?

I'd have settled for a 1 goal lockdown away win to Leicester, Liverpool and Everton this year. I would expect us to still play good football, we have too many good players in there not to, but we need to see that steel in our defensive play that has been so lacking over the last year.

4). Which players- if any- do you think will benefit from his appointment, and which players do you think will suffer with him taking the helm?

The players who worked so well under Poch may all find this change in style beneficial. We have an older squad now that know more, but not enough and what Jose brings is something that a lot of them haven't had before.

I think/hope that Kane will be a huge beneficiary from this appointment. Jose knows that Kane is our biggest weapon and will aim to get Kane more goal scoring chances than he does right now. I think Winks will be one of the biggest losers as I can't see Jose sticking with him as our #6 long term and we have better #8's at the club already. Having heard what Jose had to say about the contract rebels, he will probably marginalise Rose, Eriksen and Toby. I'm not 100% sure on the Jan situation so that might be different.

5). Do you predict a trophy- or trophies- under him?

Every trophy in this league is hotly contested. The league cup and europa were once second class achievements, now they mean something and the clubs that used to put minimal effort into winning them now actually try. However, the Jose pragmatism might be what get's us through those games where we have failed in the past. The 1-2 against UTD in the semi final a couple of years back is probably the best example of what I'm talking about.

This is exactly the kind of thing I was on about earlier. The moral high ground is a fantastic place, all power to you and we as Spurs fans take that high ground ritually, every time there's an issue, that's where we head. He did this, he did that, fuck off I don't want him in my club. Oh boofuckinghoo.

Exactly what I was on about. Wanting ones cake and eating it.

Fuck it, get someone with a bit of bite in, someone who'll put people's noses out of joint, who give as good as he gets and who'll stand our corner no matter what. Because 'nice' has won us fuck all for far too long, if you want nice then fine, but don't complain when once again, we're serial losers.

And the worst of it is, should this whole thing work and we actually win something, those morally superior chaps will fight their way to the front of the mob and cheer loudest.

You can bet both your bollocks, your cat and any residual bumfluff you might have lurking betwixt your pert pear like cheeks on it.
What a wonderful post.

People honestly comparing the hiring of one of the most successful managers of all time with the time we hired George Graham? Fuck me gently. Grow up.

I’m looking forward to Jose giving us a bit of an edge and prickliness. He won’t settle for Spursy and being viewed as a soft touch or mentally weak.

He’s by far the best option open to us.

The reaction from some of you shows how much of a weak mentality you have and how much this has plagued our fans for years. We have just appointed a serial winner who's has won more trophies since he started managing than our entire club history, whatever way you want to look at it this is a momentous day yet some of you are too busy hoping that he fails.

Do you want to win a fucking trophy or not?
Do you want our club to be taken seriously or not?
Do you want to keep the likes of Kane or not?

Ask yourself this question as to why we are continually the bridesmaids and we'd never win anything...it's because the entire culture and mentality of this club is based around being 'Spursy' something that our fans are all too happy to embrace.

Change your mentality, we're a huge club starved of success it's only right that we have the best in charge to oversee the change in fortunes at this club.

This. Fucking amazed at some reactions. It’s like some fans just love losing. This is one of the biggest, if not the biggest, managerial appointment in our history.
A truly world class proven winner is now our manager.

We were pretty horrendous for most of the CL campaign.

No we weren't. We actually played our best football in the CL - even in the early (losing) qualifying games we were much better than our league form. Should have easily accounted for Inter away; great game against Barca at Wembley with a Messi special beating us. And beating Dortmund, City and Ajax was an astounding achievement.

Make your point but don't make shit up please.

Only spurs fans could possibly make this comparison. I don't like Jose as a person but he's won more than our club
