I actually thought you were joking

If you want to use 40 mins against Bayern to help your argument then be my guest, if you're being serious then there's no point having this conversation.
Together with the Palace game it's the only two times this season we've looked even somewhat convincing and coherent as a team. Nothing more, nothing less. The two best performances this season has been under Pochettino - nothing more to discuss as it's not up for debate, I agree.

Yeah you realise we were losing at half time in the Bayern match lol but you can have it anyway if it desperately helps your argument...tbh I wouldn't even call that Palace match a complete performance as it was over by half time and we just relaxed in the 2nd half so really that's one match under Poch where we looked decent

Not that it makes a difference because under Mourinho we've look equally as shite but I don't get why you want to re-write history just to force a point?

You just going to completely ignore the defensive aspect of team cohesion?

A team doesn't just need to look good on the ball to be convincing, they need to convince with structure and off the ball.

Our work off the ball until the restart has been abysmal, Bayern game included.

What about the first half against West Ham, or the 5-0 against Burnley.
There is just this unwarranted hate of mourinho by fans who seem to be happy for us to get relegated just to say “I told you so”

you’re supposed to be spurs fans

Really don't want the anti-football. Its a fallacy that you need to build success from the back in modern football. Obviously a good defence is important but Energy, positive play are likely to yield results too. Look at atalanta, all out attack and punching massively above their weight. Plus the fans have something to enjoy, rather than the turgid dross we are currently witnessing.

The roy keane/ Gary neville soft centre argument annoys the hell out of me, we have shown real fight in the last 10 years. Selective memory, we fought back against man City and ajax in the previous rounds of cl. Its normal for teams in their first major final to be a little overawed, remember Liverpool the year before? but we have a soft centre? Its a lazy argument used to justify the support of a washed up manager who is 15 years behind the curve. How many arsenal 1-0 teams are currently winning things? None.

Atalanta have won nothing and tell me a team that have won a major trophy without a strong defence?

How many of the players he has chosen today are confident on the ball, and can be relied upon not to hide or shit themselves?

Toby, GLC, Kane, Son perhaps?

this is his biggest weakness, and a huge reason why the game will mainly be played in our half... and we will have 35% possession

Enjoy

A fallacy?

Liverpool were also rans until they sorted out their defence with VVD.

City with Kompany win the league. Without Kompany, and missing La Porte for a large portion of the season, end up losing 9 games, unheard of for Guardiola.

The goons when Wenger inherited Graham’s defence, United with a dynasty of top defenders, Leicester with Huth and Morgan, Chelsea with Terry and Cahill etc.

Every single one of those title winning sides had a solid base to work from. When they’ve lost them all have regressed without exception.

Solid defence is what title winning sides are built on, there are no exceptions.

Thats not my point. The point is you don't have to go the graham/jose way. A system where you maximise possession and try to win the ball early will lead to less chances for the opposition, as they don't have the ball for long enough. Barca, City, man City, have good defensive records but are not defensive minded teams. TJose is risk averse in his philosophy - the more possession the more chance you have to make a mistake, which leads to pretty poop football. There is more than one way to be successful.

But they aren't defensive minded or risk averse are they. A team doesn't need to hand the initiative to the opposition like spurs are.

I know what you're saying. But in order to attract the players who can play and win that way costs millions. Millions we won't spend.

The examples you give are evidence of this. Look at the spending of City and Barca.

Mourinho been doing just fine ever since he arrived, but some aren't happy before we win every game by 4 goals.

From actual relegation form before he arrived to top 6 form. It's not always easy on the eye, but damn, give the man some time and a transfer window to identify and sort out who he want's gone/in and let's see where we are in 6 months.

I did not know that Tanganga was fit and as he is fit he must surely replace Aurier before he is red card .
As for Moura well I dont get what Jose sees in him he is not a player I would start and what many have said "impact player " at best

I also gave the example of atalanta who have been challenging for the serie a title despite an extremely limited budget.

Bournemouth was but as I've said the ball movement wasn't quick enough. Penalty on Kane in first half and it's a different game. The other games since restart and we've had a fair few shots in all of them. But teams are sitting back so ball needs to be moved quicker.

We need to become hard to beat, then we can focus on the offensive side of games. All winning teams are built on solid foundations. Jose had nothing to do with the buying and selling of this back four, that's on Poch who many want back.

It doesn't make sense to me.
Pha good one...

We are fucking at home yet we sit so deep as if we are 18th placed Aston Villa praying to just get a point. This is not Spurs and its not fun and I don't even think it can/will be successful but even if it is we'll have all fallen asleep by the time we reach any cup finals. The Jose gamble was a bad one, even if we win this I don't care this is just so boring, we watch Tottenham for some enjoyment, be brave have a go, sure be pragmatic at times or in big away games but honestly this is just draining to watch.

No they aren’t, or weren’t, that we can agree on. Mind you, Leicester were built on stifling attacks then the long ball up to Mahrez and Vardy, not to mention they had prime Kante.

The difference though is that we are comparing our team, at the start of a defensive rebuild, to teams that had established defences and had won titles. The important comparison is what happened to them after their defences regressed, just proving the importance of the solidity.

At the moment it looks to me as though JM has identified the defence as the primary issue, so he’s devoting the majority of his time into getting that right. What troubles me is that it appears that that is ALL he’s focused on atm, which I don’t necessarily agree with. Simple pass and move triangles, giving the player on the ball at least 2 options to pass to, is something that is easily coached, especially to top level professionals. I did this with U9’s and had them turning older teams over with ease. Not really comparable I know, but the principle is sound. Against Bournemouth we couldn’t manage that at all, but then if that is coached into kids from a young age, why can’t our team manage that regardless? They’ve been playing together, in the main, for years.
