A lot of people probably would have preferred Nagelsmann and he's certainly hot property right now. But I share the same concerns as others as Nagelsmann would almost certainly have needed a year to transform us into something reasonably functional and as a young coach in a new league it could have backfired spectacularly. Nagelsmann needs a clean break, finish his project at RB Leipzig then join a team before preseason. It would have been such a monumental job for him here.Wow amazing info thanks for sharing. Good to see we were looking at 4 very good options all have their strengths and weaknesses, I can see that with Anchelotti being a bit arrogant whereas I think this was exactly the opportunity that Jose was waiting for and so he will have come across keen as mustard and knowing Jose I’m sure he’d have produced a dossier on our strengths and weaknesses and how he can be successful with us.
Id have loved nagglesman and I think Rogers would’ve been a decent fit with the way we want to play football and he’s a top top manager, quite underrated but as a package aside from the rather negative football at times I think Jose is probably the best choice out of the 4, although nagglesman I think would’ve done well with us but he’s more of a risk.
my order of preference would’ve been:
1. nagglesman
2. Jose
3. Rogers
4. Anchelotti
really insightful though thanks so much for sharing and the poch compensation thing for a few weeks makes complete sense and is along the lines of what I heard as well when j shared insights of the mood behind the scenes and how all was not right since the CL final and even a bit before that.
(Not a Q obviously) but it makes me wonder if Eddie Howe was spoken to at all or was even on a shortlist or 2nd list as lots of rumours saying that one of the directors is a big fan of his but as soon as Jose became available and now as you’re saying certain other options weren’t available then Jose was n.o 1 target and we went all out for him.
looking forward to the amazon doc , I hope there is some behind the scenes with levy and scenes on squad management and financial planning etc like city and Sunderland and Leeds all had in theirs so we can get a glimpse of what levy is really like.
great info.

We weren't in any shape to function the way that his teams do and it made much more sense to go with an experienced winner who knows how to get under achieving teams in to shape. Not only that but Jose had been watching us for months, he knew the opportunity could come up.
