Martinez numbers are decent (21 leagues goals the last two seasons), but whenever I see him, which is limited, he seems vastly over rated in my opinion. His profligacy and decision making when I've seen him play for Argentina (in particular) and Inter are no where near the hype.
He's like the Argentinian Robbie Keane. As soon as he has to think what to do, it all goes to toss. Given little time he can pull off the mercurial. But might work for this kind of role as a finisher if he can keep up with the press which I've not seen whether he could do or not.

Who that has had enough to actually protest, given the placid nature of PL fanbases, is suddenly going to be placated by a transfer link to a player? Anyone who fits in that probably very narrow that bracket wasn't going to be much use at a protest, surely?
It's not supposed to stop the protests though. As we have seen people in their nature want hope, want something to cling onto and if there is excitement about a Martinez turning up then the conversation about the protests gets diluted.

Anyway it was a flippant comment as I saw someone today say that a link to a big name striker would pop up before Saturday as the mood gets worse

He’s one of the best defensive forwards in the game, so I definitely think he could put in a shift to the required level. His stats for tackles (85th percentile) blocks (91st percentile) and interceptions (98th percentile) are all extremely good.

I'm not sure about Lautaro himself to be honest, but it is more of the stature of player that I hope we're looking at to lead the line.
I’m a massive fan of his and have watched probably 70-80% of his games for Inter as they are the other club I follow. His numbers are incredibly consistent, he’s a big game player, a fighter, fantastic in the air even tho he’s short, is excellent at finding space in the box and is just a better all round player than Richy. He was nicknamed El Toro, the bull, because of how aggressively he plays. He is just in your face constantly which again sometimes results in him forcing things but he will also run defensives ragged. Is he Haaland or Osimhen level, no, his finishing can be erratic at times even tho he has the technique and he needs good technical players alongside him. He really suffers when he’s isolated. I’ve always felt with him if he just worked on finessing his skills he’d be an absolute beast but as is he’s just a tad rough around the edges. But like I said, his numbers are incredibly consistent and his all round play is getting better each year. He will also push himself and the team until the final whistle. If you’re looking for a player to lead a press from the top he’d be a great pick. Really he is about as best an established target we could hope for in regards to CF. Dusan is a better natural finisher then him but with his injuries I have big concerns. The caveat being, and this would go for Dusan, Orban, Leonardo or any of the other strikers I’ve seen mentioned, he’d need much better support from the wings.

Which sort of brings up another point, I’d take Lautaro in a heart beat. I think I even said back when we appointed Ange that he’d be a perfect striker for him even if he isn’t, and probably never will be, a top 4/5 striker in the world. BUT if we were going to splash the cash on just one player I’d rather it be a WF then a CF. I think ultimately I’d prefer a Lautaro quality striker but I think an Orban and then spending £50/60 mil on a really talented WF would be the better option. In an ideal world I’d get Lautaro, a top wide player and Orban (and maybe sell Richy) but that’s never, ever going to happen.

TBH tho the argument is moot as we aren’t going to be buying Lautaro or Dusan or Eze or Chiesa or any other player that would take a hefty chunk and a commitment from Levy to get it done without fucking around trying to squeeze every penny out of the deal.

Yeah I've thought the same of him in the past. Watched Inter a lot under Conte as their games always felt a bit emotionally charged so they were good fun, and would have loved him then. Just seems like almost every time I've seen him since he's been underwhelming. Haven't watched him near extensively or regularly enough for a short while though so can't really comment on how his game has been of recent.

I do think we need someone 'deadly' in the box and Lautaro could fit that if his level of play hasn't dropped. I too though am sceptical over such names as these transfers never really seem to materialise. If the links to Lauraro get any stronger in the next few days I fully expect him to once again declare his love for Inter and desire to stay.

What gives me hope (if we sign him) is that Son used to be like that too, but managed to improve a lot in that area.

🤣🤣🤣 here is our standard big name player i expected us to be linked with towards the end of the transfer window.
This happens nearly every window and guess the outcome....... sure Levy is taking the piss with us doing this. Don't be fooled guys!

Jacobs doesn’t know his arse from his elbow though. I’d file under nonsense.
Im pretty sure on the actual article he says something like we were previously interested in him so could make a move. I dont think he actually said we are going to try for Lautaro.

So it's not even news then. It's the exactly the kind of thing he does.

We couldn't get a deal over the line when Paratici was pulling the strings. This must be a complete non starter with Levy at the wheel.
