So, we scoured the world, and in May came up with the best goalkeeping coach we could attract to White Hart Lane.

Hans Leitert "joins us with glowing references and an excellent reputation".

Here's how Leitert's appointment was announced on the official site.

Coaching appointment

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Hans Leitert to our coaching staff.
The 35-year-old will join the Club from Recreativo Huelva as First Team Goalkeeping Coach.

Born in Vienna, Austria, Leitert was the national team’s Under-21 goalkeeping coach for six years, as well as enjoying two seasons with Panathinaikos.

As a player, Leitert represented his country at Under-18 and Under-21 level before a wrist injury forced him into retirement having been the youngest goalkeeper in the Austrian top-flight during his time with VfB Mödling.

He began his coaching career with his former club’s youth side before taking full-time coaching positions with Rapid Vienna and Austria Vienna.

Leitert, who holds a Master’s degree in Sports Science, has also been invited to speak at goalkeeping lectures on behalf of UEFA.

Perry Suckling will revert back to his role as Academy Goalkeeping Coach having ably stepped up to First Team duties since October, 2007.

Sporting Director Damien Comolli said: “We took a lot of care in our search for a new First Team goalkeeping coach. It is a crucial position at the Club, not only in terms of training and developing the First Team goalkeepers, but also because we have got a lot of quality and potential in goalkeepers of a younger age group - so it was a very important choice for us.

“We believe Hans will bring many qualities to the Club. He is a forward thinking coach who likes to employ new methods, a very enthusiastic individual who has lived and worked in different countries with different influences and has also worked with UEFA. He joins us with glowing references and an excellent reputation.

“Perry has done a fantastic job during his time with the First Team and I would like to thank him for his work. I know Juande has appreciated his commitment and efforts, but Perry’s passion lies with coaching younger goalkeepers- he was keen to return to his position within our Academy, that is a great ideal to have and we are delighted to have him at the Club.”

What does Pat Jennings do? I thought he was our goalkeeping coach? Apparently he is in "Director of goalkeeper development" whatever the hell that is. Can he teach Gomes to catch a ball?

We really need someone who can work well with Gomes. The former PSV GK coach would be the best choice i think. If not him then the coach at pompey could do well, as he has with David James. Someone who can get inthe head of Gomes because thats his only real problem, mental. Sort his head out and he'll be a top class keeper again.

Maybe someone from Pompey or PSV..?

PSV's current goalkeeping coach is none other than our old chum 'Wandering' Hans Segers, so, no ta. If, as Bubble suggests, we could get his predecessor, it might be a good shout.

If he were ten years younger I'd say Bob Wilson.

I don't know. How much more damage to people's brains are your crass comments going to do?

You're funny when you hold a torch for a player SS57, especially when his consistent blunders smack us all in the face every week.

And your inability to see that without Gomes' saves we'd be dead and buried is vastly unamusing. His errors may have cost us three or four goals so far (the Sun says so, it must be true—whether those goals have cost us results isn't clear); he's prevented far, far more. As a shot-stopper he's a class above Robbo—and, indeed, most other EPL keepers. If you can't see that, it's your problem.

So the club (presumably DC) appointed as goalkeeping coach an Austrian (a country famous for producing great goalkeepers) who had had to give up goalkeeping due to injury when he was 25 and had never coached in the UK before, to coach a Brazilian who had never played in the UK before. Eek

Shurely shome mishtake?

Should have gone to Shotsavers!

Maybe the idea is to get someone in as a player/coach ??? This could be the loophole weve been looking for.
