Just took a look at their signings under Boehly, and it's beautiful to see.

They've managed to spend over 300m quid and the only position they've notably improved their first 11 is CB (and with Thiago Silva leaving soon even that's doubtful).

They still need at least 2 more quality forwards, midfielders and probably 2 more fullbacks if Chilwell can't fix his injury issues.

The way they spend, that's probably another 300-400m to even get competitive again once Jorginho, Kante and Silva leave in the summer.

Their bench last night included Gallagher, Aubameyang, Ziyech, Cucurella & Jorginho. Plus their new 30m centre half.
They’re not exactly down to the bare bones.
I honestly think they’ve got too many players - the squad is a bloated mess with no balance and Potter’s head is probably spinning. The more bad results, the more he’ll chop & change personnel and system - meaning zero consistency. Vicious circle.

Failing to buy Enzo Fernandez by all accounts. I thought it was meant to be easy, just pay the release clause up front?!

It's totally this.

They are building a squad too fast and there is zero stability in the squad. They are trying to adapt a style of play but all of that takes even longer when you have a bloaty squad, no identified core etc etc

Yeah and they've been throwing out very long, big contracts to all their new players and manager.

Potter - 5 years
28 y/o Sterling - 5 years
Cucurella - 6
Fofana - 7
Badiashile - EIGHT(!)

Even putting a 31 year old Koulibaly on a 4 year deal and offering an injury prone James a mega extension are both pretty risky. Like, James is arguably their best player but if his injury issues persist they're tied to him for another 6 years now on huge wages.

It's a good strategy when it works, but you only have to look at Ndombele to see how damaging giving a big 6 year contract to a useless player can be.

You can have all the money in the world, but it doesn't matter if your squad is stuffed with average/injured players who don't want to leave cos they're on crazy money.

Even Lukaku still has 4 years left...

I don’t ever remember there being as many keeper errors 15/20/25 years ago from even half decent keepers let alone the likes of Clemence, Southall, Schmeichel etc.
They definitely did. Ian Walker had quite a few.

IMO, Schmeichel was the best keeper in the PL in the early to mid 90s and even he had some shockers.

Chelsea are a joke club. The way they're acting under Boehly is embarrassing.

(Very funny if they get Mudryk from under Arsenal's nose though :sneaky:)
