One of my favourite Chelsea clips - needs volume on, but it's NSFW.

Maybe I'm getting old but I don't see the humour in that one. There's so much negativity in football that people grow up feeling that's how football fans should talk to each other all the time.

The state Chelsea are in he could have thought of 100 things to say that would be funnier. Nows a good time to be nicely turning the screw while they hang around long enough so you can watch them squirm.

This was precisely how Leeds fell apart. Selling future revenues then missing out on CL.

Barca negotiate their own TV contracts independently I believe.

Chelsea's centralised PL revenues are conditional on being in the PL, and most investors would look at that and say "if your TV money barely covers your wage bill then how are you going to have either the cash or FFP room to buy players and ensure PL survival?"

They will have a new £105m , but the other issue is because they've amortised sales over 6-8 years, and leveraged that allowance to the max, it will take a long long time for the burden of these annual write downs to be off their books.

in other words, even after this cycle they'll could still have no wiggle room to buy players.

Wha happens if they continue to miss out on Europe?

When do their sponsorships come up for renewal?

What are their star players saying about not playing Europe for 3 seasons on the trot?

Which top tier coach after Poch is going to have this on their CV?

There is no easy fix here. They assumed CL revenue was a given and didn't budget for falling short.

I agree with most of that. I was only saying it's possible for them to make up the shortfall before the new financial year. I've said elsewhere in this thread that even if they do that they're just delaying the inevitable.

"Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez, 23, is considering leaving Chelsea just one year after joining the club for 121m euros (£107m) on an eight-and-a-half year contract."

Good luck with that, chum.

Wouldn't be surprised if they end up loaning out some of these players to get wages off of the bill and give them some time to lower their book value before being able to actually get rid.

I don't wish misery on anyone, but if anyone has to be miserable already then I'm glad it's Chelsea players. Mental to sign such a long agreement with a club already under a cloud of uncertainty.

Enzo is on nearly $300k per week. I'd be shocked if they could find anyone willing to take on 50% of that

Is he really? That's bonkers!
If they're paying most of their recent signings those sorts of wages, they really are in the mire.

Anyone know where I can find out (roughly) what their current wages are? Not a total but per player.

Where's that quote from?

I'll admit that I skim read the athletic article but didn't see any mention of Enzo.
They did seem to infer in that article though, that Chelsea are actually ok with Ffp and could have spent last month if they wanted to.
That seems to go against a lot of what had been said recently.

This seems realistic.

They're in so much trouble. £175k a week for Cucurella? £450k a week on Reece James and Wesley Fofana when neither are ever fit? Gallagher earning half of what Chukwuemeka's on? Colwill on £5k a week? No way Gallagher and Colwill sign new deals without huge payrises..
