I never like mocking people's ambition, so if they're striving to be the biggest and best in London (or Europe) then fair play.

But they have to be realistic; it'd probably be a 20 year plan.

They need to sort out their crappy stadium situation, change their senior management, build a squad with identity and verve, increase their global brand and fan-base, and finally boost revenues significantly (say by another £250m).

It's taken ENIC and Levy about that long to sort things out at Spurs and there was a hell of a lot of hard work, pain and sacrifice put into it.

You can't just pull it out of thin air...

And all done on a tight budget. No oil baron daddies etc. Makes it even more admirable

In the last 100 years in the league they've achieved:

- 1 x 3rd place finish (85/86)
- 1 x 5th placed finish (98/99)
- 3 x 6th placed finishes (26/27, 58/59, 72/73)

So 3 Top-6 finishes in 100 years.

Brilliant.

Well done.

This is excellent stuff, and it should be used against a large section of the West Ham fans who spout the same tired old bullshit about us allegedly being hated by everyone for allegedly claiming that "we think we are better than we are".

The irony to all of this is they usually accompany this tired old statement with the other ridiculous notion that Spurs are no better or no worse than West Ham i.e that we are both on the same level !!!! They patently fail to see that they by repeatedly saying this, they are constantly doing the very thing that they they accuse us of doing.

Most Spurs fans I know do not think we are better than we are, in fact we are pretty self deprecating about our own team and realistic enough to acknowledge that we do not sit at the top of the tree in the hierarchy of football, in the way many West Ham fans think we view ourselves.

Whilst I do not think we are better than we are, my conclusions are, however good or bad we are, we have shown conclusively and consistently that we are better than West Ham, and any bitter West Ham fan that refuses to acknowledge any of our achievements should be presented with the indisputable truth that is fact, i.e that we have finished 3rd or above, three times in the last year's in comparison to their one top 3 finish in the last 100 years.

Their claims that we are on the same level as they are conclusively prove the contrary, that it is them that think they are better than they are, not us.

I would like these facts of their achievements to be posted on the Kumb website as a response to these ridiculous and tired old claims of theirs.

The other plain fact about them that proves they are bitter about us, is that if any team other than us had not spent a single penny in two transfer windows, and who played over three quarters of a season away from their home ground, with a significant number of key players being injured, and any other team had finished in the top 4 above Man Utd and Arsenal, achieved a domestic cup semi final whilst only losing on penalties and who also got to the Champions League final, all against much higher spending teams they would be referring to these achievements as remarkable, fantastic, and positive for football, and if it was them that achieved this feat they would be claiming it was out of this world and on a near par to their so called World Cup victory in 1966 with three players and no manager. Because it is us though that achieved this, the achievement is nothing to write home about, it's shit,we've been lucky, and we will bang on about and make it unbearable for everyone for the next one hundred years, and that if we had won the CL it would have been the worst thing that had or would ever happen in football.

I'm guessing that from your long post you live in Bethnal Green  ;)

Well another fact you can throw their way is that this season marked Tottenham's 10th straight Top-6 finish in the league:

To be fair they did (according to themselves) take part in and almost win the best ever FA Cup final back in 2006.

Erm against Liverpool. Who they want to be twinned with. Morons.

I don't live in Bethel Green, but apart from my partner who is a Spammer, and she doesn't mind us,and even attends Spurs games with me, and in return I have to attend a some of their games with her, most of the other Spammers I know have the views I have quoted and are really bitter about us and cannot objectively bring themselves to say anything good or even handed about us,it's always the same old we are useless bottle jobs who will never win anything and they never want us to and that we are no better than them bollocks and we think we're better than we are, and we're the most hated team in the country nonsense.

It's hilarious listening to them on the way to Spammers games on the train and in the stadium. I don't think I've ever been to a game of theirs even though we haven't been playing them, where we haven't been mentioned at length, all of course in very negative terms, either by fans sitting around chatting amongst themselves and when they are signing, yet in the same breath they claim that "we are obsessed with them". I often want to say something along the lines of "if you could all listen you yourselves you would see how ridiculous, and bitter you sound" but for obvious reasons of my own safety when at their games,I exercise the 5th and remain silent. When my other half attends Spurs games with me I then say to her, "the evidence is there for us to see, can you hear people on the trains engaging in conversations about West Ham - No, are we singing about them when we are not playing them - no. So what part of us being obsessed about them are all these Spammers on about ?

Fair enough.

To be honest, I only found out about this supposed 'rivalry' when I was in my late 20s I think.

Before then, West Ham were just another club in London.

In fact, apart from Arsenal and Chelsea who are the obvious rivals, I disliked Crystal Palace more because Neil Shipperley always seemed to score against us when I was a teenager

West Ham were just not on my radar until recent seasons.

PS I quite like Palace now and I've a very good friend who goes there, so I watch out for their results and wish them all the best!

To be fair there is a genuine historical/geographical rivalry. Our traditional catchment area borders with theirs. In the 80s it appeared to be some invisible line in Walthamstow.

My family moved out to the essex suburbs, so in my school easily over half the kids supported West Ham. The next best supported was Spurs, with some minority plastic supporters of Man U or liverpool and a very small sprinkling of goons. Should note, absolutely no chelsea supporters back then in that part of the world. Now they really aren't traditional rivals at all. But West Ham and Spurs is a proper derby match in my opinion...and because of my school years I do enjoy beating them

I think George Bernard Shaw had the best advice regarding West Ham fans - "I learned long ago to never wrestle with pigs. You both get dirty, and besides, the pig likes it."

I'm pretty sure it was West Ham he was talking about :shifty:.

Ugh, that image brings "tossing pearls before swine" to mind. I'm now chewing down some vomit after picturing WHU fans singing blowing bubbles & cheering as the team chases the lace wearing baroness through the Olympic stadium, but it's no carpet, just mud. The goal is to hold her down long enough to get her to sign their contract release :D

In a long term plan the stadium just kills them. Even if they became a top 4 club how much could they really charge for a ST in that stadium. They virtually nothing on concessions and have no extra revenue streams. They could easily be £100m behind us purely based on the stadium even if they got top4.

How many years have they got in there again?

Was it a 20 or 30 year lease?

I doubt the stadium will last 99 years infact I doubt it will last 30 years. Pretty sure it was built as a temporary stadium that could be taken apart. Utterly ridiculous that with the football conversion it pretty much cost same as ours.

It was, then they got the tax payers to make some changes so to make it more permanent.
Inital plan was to reduce the capacity after the Olympics.
