Surely after a few years of people claiming "we only have one striker" and "Son isn't one", we're not suddenly counting Lucas?

I should have specified centre forwards, which is obviously what Haller is. I guess Lucas just about counts as a striker, which shows how useless that term is for describing a footballer’s natural position.

Yeah, I tend to see it as what it used to be in the 90's and early 00's - a sort of specialist box player. A striker was what Michael Owen seemed to be - a sort of "yeah, he scores goals and fuck all else" kind of thing. I guess what Soldado was when he came. Defoe perhaps.
A forward would be a hybrid player that would offer more, and you'd see him on the edge of the box rather than skulking around the 6 yard box. In classic terms, maybe Teddy.
It's one of the reasons why I take umbrage to the description of Kane as a 'striker', because he's never been that kind of player.

I think Moura is very much a 'winger', but I actually thought he looked better in the CAM role the other night.

West Ham are taking a huge risk by selling off players before they appear to have replaced them, anyway - you'd think King's price would have risen an extra £5m or so just by the knowledge of their desperation.

Unless of course it's just the Dildo way of leeching more funds out of the squad.

I agree, to me a striker is a player who plays centrally and scores goals, but i think the modern usage is any attacking player who isn’t a midfielder.

If I could be bothered to search I’m sure I’d find plenty of lazy references online to Lucas as a ‘Brazilian striker’.

King would be a far more like-for-like replacement for Antonio when he gets injured again, they won't have to change their style if King comes in.

Giroud is a far superior player to Haller short term, which any deal surely would be.

Pelle would be a mad one so hopefully that's what they end up with.

And King hasn't managed a goal in the Championship yet this season so he fits the profile of a West Ham striker.

He also made a great slip up during the interview when talking about the Covid situation he said the following “its hard as the players wives and girlfriends are out there exposing themselves”

Sullivan's partner, Emma Benton-Hughes. I think calling her a porn 'star' is taking it a bit far.

It's the same as referring to Gold and Sullivan as 'businessmen.'
