Is it everyone apart from Kane?
We all have our criteria. If Kane fulfills yours include him. I very deliberately stated that this thread was not started to be an anti Kane thread but an exploration of which players did many peoples cuts. The moment it becomes a Kane thread, I think it gets locked which would be a shame as there’s been a lot of interesting posts.

Even though I never saw him, surely we should include the player Bill Nicholson said, after he retired, was the best Spurs player of all time...and that includes such obvious greats as Jimmy Greaves, Dave Mackay and Danny Blanchflower;

Ron Burgess.

I’ve followed Spurs since 1994, so I’ll list the players I consider to be legends during my time as a fan. In no particular order, except for...

...#1, Jürgen Klinsmann. The reason I am a Spurs fan. First got into football during WC94. He was my favourite player, subsequently joined Tottenham and my decision was made.

The rest:

Teddy Sheringham, David Ginola, Ledley King, Michael Dawson, Rafael van der Vaart, Jermain Defoe, Christian Eriksen, Jan Vertonghen, Hugo Lloris

Cult heroes (not legends):

Peter Crouch, Steffen Freund, Dele Alli, Robbie Keane, Teemu Tainio, Ryan Mason, Victor Wanyama, Erik Lamela, Roman Pavlyuchenko, Aaron Lennon, Lucas Moura, Fernando Llorente

This one will be an unpopular opinion and I respect that, but I’m Welsh and I’m obviously biased but Gareth Bale makes MY list. Became a true superstar in front of our very eyes. People wanted him back a year ago, which for me says a lot.

For a laugh, some disappointments:

Roberto Soldado, Edgar Davids, Tanguy Ndombele

I’m sure there are some I’ve forgotten but I can’t think of any more and I’m off for a smoke ?

What about the brilliant Cliff Jones? A true Spurs great in every sense. Superb pace, great skill and a lovely man

You're allowed you're opinion, but he was better than Messi or Ronaldo (fat and thin one)
I never said he wasn't...

My point is that it doesn't matter how good he was...he will never be a legend in my mind, because for me a legend should be a positive role model, not a cheating drug addict. Maybe I'm being harsh / overly judgemental, but the negative sides of him are what stick at the forefront of my mind when I think of him.

On the same token, John Terry (racist and slept with a teammates partner) and Suarez (racist, bites people, cheats) would be considered legends by some, but to me are the complete opposite.

You can remember the '94 World Cup Final? I can remember the Brazil team's celebrations being a bit OTT, but as for the game itself, nothing. It was almost 3 hours (if you include shoot-out and the breaks for half-time, etc) that I consider wasted.
I did say "vague memories". It was the first major tournament I had any awareness of.

The old boys rated Burgess as great - Eddie Bailey was also supposed to have been a really good player and he worked under Nicholson for many years - many of them also said Ditchburn was better than Jennings and the Duke Len Deuquewin who had a paper shop at the top of Northumberland Park opposite the Thames bookies on the corner if your coming down from Edmonton was also supposed to have been very good not mentioned Ramsey and Harmer the charmer who was a bit later

The double side White was supposed to have been special Cliff Jones who had a butchers in Tottenham High Road was supposedly the best winger in the world quick enough to catch pigeons apparently and good in the air Dyson deserves mention if only for scoring a hat trick against Arsenal

surprised no ones mentioned Micky Hazard who was a really good footballer overshadowed by Hoddle but he scored some great and important goals and is a big Spurs fan these days

My list is growing with every pint. One or two more, and it'll be up to about 400.
