Despite many rumours circulating about Liverpool, it was uncertain as to whether Jurgen Klopp’s side will bring in any fresh faces in the January transfer window. They have recently kept their business to the minimum and concise, and that didn’t change last month.

Why the hell was Mendes even involved?

That’s what I’m bewildered about too. He’s not representing the player nor either of the clubs involved.

Did someone sell his soul to the devil?

Clubs (as well as agents) often reach out to other agents to act as intermediaries as they may know the people that they are trying to do the deal with.

It looks like FP has leaned on Mendes, as he knows the high brass at Porto, to help him get this deal done smoother/quicker. As we know that comes at a cost, probably a few million in Mendes' pocket but less for Diaz's agent. As Mendes is more powerful, there is maybe a chance that he's completely dictated the deal (taking over) and sidelined Diaz's agent, who of course hasn't liked that and has told Porto he won't make the deal happen if Mendes won't back down/is involved. Porto have panicked, sensing they would miss out on the money and knowing Liverpool were interested have basically told them what they need to pay to make the deal happen.

That's what it looks like to me.

Of course, there is the alternative that Mendes, knowing all inner workings in Portugal, has just hijacked the deal himself with no communication from ourselves.
