Signing a 5 year contract at a club like Southampton is crazy, with all due respect. Shaw is a talented left back and should never be playing for them for a huge FIVE years! Another one to cross off the list... Kolarov anyone?

He is just protecting himself and southampton's investment. Doesn't mean he is going to be there for the whole contract but means that when he goes in a few seasons saints will still get big money.

I can guarantee he wont be there five years. Not only will the contract boost his wages for the immediate future, it'll also boost his price tag if the Chelsea's, City's, Tottenham's(?) of this world want to put in a bid for him. It's a good thing for both him and Southampton.

Yeah he's better off going to Citeh and Chelsea and warming the bench. He'll play and develop and in 3 years when he's 21 he may be ready to step up...

From his career point of view I believe he did what was the best - though of course I would like him at WHL. But is he really a better prospect than, say, Lucas Digne or Ben Davies or Jordan Lukaku?
Lucas Digne for me he seems a real talent!

I think Southampton are showing some serious ambition. They are spending money and they are going to be able to hang onto some of their prospects that in previous years have moved elsewhere. They're looking to play an attractive, attacking brand of football and I can easily imagine them cementing themselves as a top half club over the next couple of years with the intent to push on to European football.

Career wise it was, well, a wise decision by Shaw. He's still only 18 and is playing for a club where he feels at home and is basically secured 1st team football, and thus can grow even further as a player (and confidence) in a safe environment.
At Chelski he would only have been loaned out anyway - unitl Chashley found more cash elsewhere. Besides, a contract doesn't mean much now a days, in 1-2 seasons the highest bidder will get him.

He's been on the radar for the big clubs for 1-2 years now. Read that his club president said both PSG and Monaco have inquired about him. Can't see him join Spurs then.

Well we've not had any links with him so I doubt it!

Chelsea can afford
To gamble on youth but we
Must nail it first time.

We must be certain
They will fulfil potential.
Levy won't take risks.

He has done the right thing. He needs to play every week unless injured. He will do that at Southampton.

Apparently to
Frustrate some people who don't
Understand. Hello.

I do understand
You must learn to make them flow
A bit better though

That's 2-0 to me by my count. :p

Edit: I can't believe I took the piss out of Jim earlier for being at a Michael Buble concert tonight, when I'm wasting my Saturday night here trying to out-haiku someone.

We had not links to any LB

I think De la Bella is the only one we've been linked

ITK Achi on SO said Spurs were in the driving seat when it came to Shaw. And he's got a good record (Archi that is).
