Barcelona are still in massive financial difficulties. It has been reported that they are still finding it tough to register new players. To bring in a new signing under La Liga rules, they need to recoup €3 for every €1 spent on new salaries. And yet they are handing out contracts like candy.

In the January window they signed Aubemayang (free), Ferran Torres (55M), they just signed Raphina from Leeds (60M), Kessie (free), just extended Dembele's contract, and are chasing Lewandowski. They also signed Pedri and Fati up to long term contracts last season. How are they doing this? They must need to sell a *lot* of players.

They want to reach knockout stages of CL and get that money every year, it's financially riskier to not even be in CL. They can do it because they found a short-term fix with selling some of the TV rights money, now they need a long-term solution and they think that going far in CL stages will be enough. Plus they won't be offering 600k p/w wages anymore (no wonder De Jong didn't come here). If it doesn't work out then they can always sell Pedri, Fati, Gavi etc.

Seems the same US company that has ties with Madrid are paying into Barcelona

June 30 (Reuters) - Barcelona have agreed to sell a 10% stake in their LaLiga TV rights for the next 25 years to US private equity group Sixth Street for 207.5 million euros ($215.84 million) as they look to improve their financial situation, the club announced on Thursday.

"We are activating economic levers and executing on our patient, sustainable, and efficient strategy to strengthen the club's financial footing," Barcelona president Joan Laporta said in a statement.

The US investment firm already has ties to Barcelona's rivals Real Madrid, after reaching a 360 million euros deal in May to develop and operate new businesses at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium for 20 years.

"Our team looks forward to a long-term partnership providing our flexible capital and deep sports sector expertise to support Barca as it continues to strengthen its organization and achieve its strategic objectives," Alan Waxman, Co-Founder and CEO of Sixth Street, said.

Granted Barcelona will still probably need to loan / sell players and i have no idea how this will effect them financially in the future as they sold part of their merchandise rights as well

BARCELONA, June 16 (Reuters) - Barcelona approved on Thursday the sale of a minority share of their licensing and merchandising division and the cession of up to 25% of income from their LaLiga TV rights in a bid to improve their financial situation.

The club board hopes this will enable them to finish the financial year without losses and increase their spending limit.

Club president Joan Laporta said they expect to sell up to 49.9% of retail operation Barcelona Licensing and Merchandising (BLM) for 200-300 million euros and a minimum of 200 million each 10% of the LaLiga TV rights for 25 years.

Do they really need some of the following players to achieve CL in Spain, on top of what they already have?:

- Kessie
- Christensen
- Raphinha (with Auba, Dembele, Ferran, Fati already at the club)
- Lewandowski (on top of those attackers above, surely it should be either or with )
- Kounde
- Also talk of Azpi and Alonso

I don't see any of the above making them amongst the favourites for the CL (ahead of City, Liverpool, PSG, Bayern and Real) and the league is not even a given. Out of all of those I think Lewa is the only bonafide world class player there and IMO only Raph has the potential to get there (Maybe Kounde at a push).

Seems they are spending a lot of money for the sake of it becuase it's there. I think they should put more faith in their younger players and actually use some of this windfall to pay off debts and secure their future.

Didn't Barca's best modern era come after putting more faith in academy stars than big money transfers?

Be surprised if Lewandowski comes.

I think they’re almost planning on doing a rangers but without the consequences. Pumping money they don’t have into things like the stadium and contracts now. It’s almost like they know there is a financial reset in the offing.

Better safe than sorry. They were mid-table before Xavi joined and they don't need to win CL, getting there and then getting out of groups is good money. Players they buy will have re-sale value.

Barca will never go bust, there will always be a sugar Daddy out there willing to put money into them and the FFP goal posts will be relocated for them and Madrid for the rest of time.

Their brand value is huge - they might have to go a few years with have a load of sponsors on their shirt - but they will be fine

Well they’ll have resale value if Barca are allowed to completely rip them off like they seem to be doing with De Jong.

Fucking hell...i checked their official account just to see what else they posted; beyond a pic and a note about a medical, this is it.

I know socials etc. aren't everything but this is appallingly funny. Could've just had a pic of him and the president signing the contract and it would have looked slicker/more professional.

They are banking on this court hearing about the whether UFEA can hold all the European rights. Also banking on whether the premier league clubs can get involved again.

Is it all tv revenue or just La Liga tv revenue? Are they betting that they might have other income streams beyond La Liga (eg Super League) in the near future?

I think theyre betting on a Super League. No way does La Liga generate enough particualrly with the new more equal allocations (as I understand it)

I know we blame players for being greedy (I dont think theyre greedy, its a job for a player and im all up for chasing the money) but when clubs spend 50m with money they dont really have and then plead poverty in not paying players their deferred wages - I think they should be punished personally.

If I was in de Jong's camp. I would t budge on unpaid salary. If it were me, and barca were trying to screw me, I'd look at non payment as a breach of contract.
