This message could have been written anytime over the last 30 years apart from a 3 year spell with Poch.

You seem to have forgotten about the spell under Redknapp, but I know what you mean. At Spurs, we’re always one step away from a crisis.

I'm not defending Winks, or anyone ahead of him for that matter but the fact is that if the "shackles were off" we "went for it" we would have been 3 or 4 nil down by half time. We're not good enough to play them at their own game. The tactics were fine, it's the fact that our better players were absolutely appalling today.
My issue isn't that we didn't go for it, it's that we just statically sat and let them have the ball. They just passed through us regardless. Why did we not try and win it or cut out the passing lanes. We literally just bent over for them.

What I found amazing was that not a single long pass made it to our player and we continued to try till the end.

If Man City are premier league, we are League One.

Any potential manager looking at our players would run a mile. Not one winner amongst them. JN, BR etc would have no interest in managing this lot.

I didn't say that. I said we would get "similar results" and I was talking about over a longer span of time.
Still disagree. The squad is a way down on poch’s teams but a decent manager would have us in the top 4 this season. We’ve thrown away so many points through Jose’s negativity - if we were even just bad with a lead this year instead of historically awful we’d be top 4 now

No I'm not. They are very good. I know that. I saw a severe lack of effort again today though. I think it's been well established I don't like Winks but can anybody point me to anything at all he did in 90 minutes today. Seriously anything??

Exactly this.
How on earth did Winks play the whole 90 minutes?
If Mason wanted to bring on Sissoko (although God knows why) then surely Winks should have come off as Gio was starting to have more influence on the game.

Poor line up from the start & poor subs.

Those last 30 minutes were absolutely made for Ndombele to come on and make an impact. With the game more stretched he'd have been turning the City defenders inside out, potentially getting off a counter attack or two and winning free kicks in dangerous areas (always our best hope). A part of me was actually thinking Ryan might have pulled off a mini-masterstroke in waiting to unleash Bale and Tanguy late on....but then came Sissoko :banghead:

Honestly think that cowardly choice of sub killed it for us. Ended what little hope we had of nicking the win. At the time of game most ripe for counters, just how are you expecting the team to transition quickly from defence to attack with a midfield of PEH, Winks and Sissoko?? Utterly bemusing and disappointing. :poop:

The reaction of people saying Mason is a coward and should fuck off is laughable. A parody of reactionary fan. Stuff like that makes me realise as a fan base we don't deserve trophies.
What word would you use to describe the decision to go with a midfield of Winks, Sissoko, and Hojbjerg when we needed a goal to lift a trophy, then?

If you need a goal and you bring Sissoko on you are either:
A) Looking to get sacked, like Jose did.
Or
B) Miles out of your depth, Like Mason is.
We didn't need a goal. It was a restructuring. The idea was very obvious, you bring on Sissoko to counter Bale's weaknesses and not expose us. That's the idea behind it. It's logically sound. The issue was Lo Celso and Lucas were doing alright and Bale probably should have stayed on the Bench.

Only saw the last 5 minutes. Can’t say we weren’t warned. This group of players have zero desire or personal pride. They’re good at getting managers the sack though. Bunch of snakes.

Well I was never expecting to win. Just wanted to see us give it a proper go but ultimately more disappointed about the performance rather than losing another final.

We started higher up the pitch but over the course of the first half, we just sat deeper and deeper. The 2 of hojberg and winks were never showing for the ball, resulting in our CDs hoofing it upfield. In order to play from the back and manage to get the the to attacking players, at least one of them has to get closer or between the CDs.

Bringing on sissoko gave us ZERO chance of nicking it. Lo celso was the only one making those incisive forward passes. I honestly can't believe this guy is a professional footballer. Always hiding and not wanting to receive the ball. Failing to jump for a header resulted in their winner.

No pressing, no commitment apart from dier Toby and Hugo.

Haha the flat cap brigade were pleased he started in front of Ndombele though.
The problem with Winks is he isn’t aggressive enough defensively and he only ever does comfortable passes. When he has to pass more quickly or forward or over 30 yards he tends to get it wrong.

Don't know why people are saying it will be a painful rebuild?

I'd be more than happy to sacrifice 90% of this team to build something with kids who actually have some pride and desire to fight for the shirt.

We could have stolen a win if we got lucky, in the end we didn't. To win this in a deserved manner was never on the table.
Our issues remain, it doesn't matter who manage the team. It's the health of the squad and the situation we're in that need to change.
It won't until the team get its break, and we get a transfer window. Then we can possibly improve.
