That quote is part of the fabric of the club. This is what we are and what we should always be as a club. If you don’t like it and big names and tin pots is all your interested in go chase the blood money at whatever club it’s at at the time like the rest of the plastic fans.

This kind of attitude is exactly what’s wrong with this forum these days.

While I don't particularly like the suggestion of going and supporting someone else, calling your support into question, he does have a point about the quote.
Playing the game the right way is part of this club, we should play with swagger and panache.
I put that aside under Jose and Conte because the desire to win something was too great but Ange has brought me back to earth.
I want to watch good football, played in the way that we should and I'm going to try not to lose sight of that again.

I mean in the case of Dorrington.

Had Romero been available or VDV then that would have been a great time to give Dorrington a chance as you have experienced (Romero) or calmer heads (VdV).

Unfortunately, Ange can he either put him alongside Dier, who he may pick up bad habits from or Davies who is not even a CB.

Young CBs need an older experienced assured head there guiding them.

They are 100% going to make a mistake and need someone to reassure them.

Players like Dier and Davies need to focus on their game.

Donley probably should get a chance, but perhaps Ange wants to do that when the midfield consists of players who can control the game?

Agree. I remember everyone giving Mourinho shit for not playing Troy Parrot 5 years ago.

With all due respect to the great, that quote has aged like milk.

It’s all good and well saying this when he in fact was a part of the last team to win a league title with us all the way back in 1961.

That’s 62 years ago. Some fallacy, eh?
Not sure it has to be honest. If anything it has proven more relevant than ever. We tried to just win games under 2 of the most successful managers in football and still couldn't win. The last time a team won the title playing the less attractive game was Chelsea under our last manager. City have dominated since then and they play attacking football. Liverpool also won it one year playing attacking football. Its been a while since a team won without playing that way. It also turned toxic at the stadium due to the brand of football even though we were challening for top 4. Already this season has been a party atmosphere simply by playing attacking football again. Many fans still talk about the days under Poch and Redknapp with those teams we had, yet we won nothing. People don't talk much about Graham and Ramos. The last successful manager to win and play memorable football was Venables 30 years ago. Fans still remember that team and cup win more fondly than the 2 league cups. That's what we need to strive for again.

Hopefully though, we'll be more than just a an Fa Cup team going forward. It would be nice to do more than that or top 4.

The quote was used in response to a post I made about winning comes first, everything else is secondary. Not once did I imply that I don’t care how we play, I’m just stating what matters MOST to me. The literal definition of glory is winning honours or achieving success. That’s what I care about most, not how we get there. I’m still going to enjoy every minute of the football we play, but I want us to win first and foremost. It’s simply an opinion, nothing more.

I understand the quote completely, but since then we haven’t lived up to that at all. 63 years is a long time. Long enough to disprove the fallacy used in the quote. That’s all I was trying to say.

How that invited such a negative response is beyond me.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying we should not play entertaining football, I’ve been singing Ange’s praises all season. I was simply stating what matters most to me.

Winning, first and foremost, how we get there comes secondary. That doesn’t mean it’s not important to me at all, it’s just not as important as winning at the end of the day.

I would absolutely love and prefer it if we won something whilst playing scintillating football.

City play the 'best' football and win because they spend the money to buy the best players. Liverpool also spent a lot of money on buying top class players when they played their 'best' football. To play the tactics Liverpool and City play and win, you need the best players to do it.

For me, tactics in football is like the tail wagging the dog. The point of a tactic is to achieve the best result with the players you have available.

Everything around the club points to this being the most important step forward. Incredible manager, world class training facilities and stadium, one of the highest revenue generating clubs in the world. All that’s missing is a few triumphs. We will get there, even if it’s going to take a little more time.

That has to be the long term objective but even saying that is 2 steps ahead. We've won nothing since 2008 so just a trophy would be nice. We would do well to be just an FA cup team for a bit. A league title would be amazing but it's been so long ago. If City actually do get punished that might be the chance to do it.

A league title will be a bit of a stretch until Pep gets bored, but I do feel an FA/Carabao/UEL/UECL in our near future. Ange has done it before and he will definitely do it again given the time and backing he deserves.

Newcastle United playing a 17 year old kid away to PSG and home to Chelsea & doing really well too.

Say what you want but Donley should have made his debut by now.

I mean every title team spends money but all the top teams play attacking football in the top leagues now. Chelsea are probably the only ones who have in the past done it with less attackong football but they also spent big. Obviously the best teams will win and you have to spend money for that. Look at the top teams last season, every one who finished above us played on the front foot. Our best success was playing attacking football too though and we don't spend huge. You can't win titles without spending big regardless of the brand of football nowadays. The football Jose and Conte played looked very dated to me. I think the game has changed in that way and a lot more teams go for it now in top half of the table.

I'm jumping into the conversation a bit but wanted to say that I thoroughly enjoyed finishing top 4 under Conte and we were playing some great football.
It was a brilliant end to the season but then he imploded and everything went to shit.
"Just wait until we see the team after a full Conte preseason" they all said.

Sometimes it feels like a cursed existence supporting this club, but I'm hoping we're going on a fun ride with Ange over the next few seasons.

And I was one of them, also shouting "just give him what he wants".
It's still hard to believe how quickly we went from optimism to uncertainty, to total despair under Conte.

I met my cousin again last week, for the first time in about 35 years and made sure to tell him that his dad (my uncle - my dad wasn't into football at all) was to blame for me supporting Spurs and making my son to do the same.
He's got a lot to answer for! 🤣

I don't think the football they play is dated at all, there are many ways of winning a football match and there will be different tactics which suit different games.

I want us to win, over and above anything else. How we get there is secondary too me.

It’s glory glory Tottenham Hotspur, not entertaining entertaining Tottenham Hotspur.

We need wins and inevitably trophies to justify that chant, that’s what glory entails at the end of the day.

FWIW I’m happy with Ange, but as always bitterly disappointed that we’ve once again been left short after a few injuries and suspensions. Is adequate squad depth too much to ask after not having any for like 5-6 seasons now? I don’t think so.
First of all, the word glory has nothing to do with winning.

Secondly, it's not 'a few injuries and suspensions'. From the starting XI against United, six players were missing against Wolves and Villa! It's an extraordinary situation in terms of absentees. It's not possible to have that much squad depth and maintain a squad where everyone are happy. The higher the quality of the squad players, the more game time they demand, and without Europe, those minutes simply don't exist. Yes, we're light in defense, but with both starting CBs out there will be a drop in quality for any team. Especially when the entire starting midfield is out as well.

And we still managed to outplay Villa. Newcastle, with their infinite wealth, have also been ravaged by injuries and lost 2-0 to Bournemouth. City were without Rodri (and KDB) and lost three on the trot despite having the best squad depth in the world. And despite our rotten luck, we're only four points off top, with players coming back and an easier schedule on the horizon.

It started when he couldn't get what he needed in the Summer window, then all his mates started passing away and he got ill himself. Easy to understand why he lost all interest tbf.

I swear the 'storm of negativity' is one ITK saying some youth players were disappointed they hadn't been given a chance in an injury crisis.

Some people really need to chill out with the pearl clutching.

I don't disagree. 3 close mates passing away and then having emergency surgery... hence why I said it feels like a cursed existence for us. Before Conte's life exploded we had started the season very well.
