Doesn’t seem to be a good fit at first glance. I expected him to take a ‘project’ job. Taking a club with big name players with huge egos who reached the CL final last season (and where therefore the only true ‘success’ is winning it either this or next season) is high risk. I don’t think his high intensity training will go down well when the league campaign in France is largely not so intense. He may get bored with it himself pretty quickly.

He will most likely fail. He wins the domestic stuff and nobody will care. It’s absolutely expected. He reaches CL final - great, but they did last year. So he needs to win it to stand himself out. Anything less is failure.

I wouldn’t be surprised if what happened here was him deciding United weren’t going to sack Ole anytime soon and pinging PSG a message to let them know he’d take the job. They then got rid of Tuchel early to get Poch in. Poch most likely sees this as a short term appointment which gives him a real chance of CL glory. If it doesn’t work out, he’s still won the french league and it’s kept him busy until his next big project (which I bet he still hopes is United). The main risk is whether his stock will have dipped by then.

So now I have to look for French football on TV somewhere. Will be nice to watch a manager with a smile on his face and not the scowl or condescending smirk of some

He'll be doing it to cash some credit, I'm sure.

He will be unlikely to succeed in a way they expect, but he'll perhaps win a few trophies so that that monkey is off his back, which will get him some patience/respect in his next one.

Hopefully you’ll be spending your time crywanking over PSG games instead of littering this forum with your weird posts.

How will Poch handle this I wonder.

" , to the extent that players like Kylian Mbappe and Neymar have a direct line of communication with the president.

Unsurprisingly therefore, you sense Tuchel felt his authority was being constantly undermined. "

Happy for him and he’ll learn a lot from that job. I can only assumed that Pochettino is chosen to find a person who can try and unify and build a team spirit amongst talented stars with little collaborative sense.

Hope he rekindles his love for the game which certainly went out the window here, especially after the CL final.

I have horrible feeling this is all going to go quite quickly sour for him. He won’t have the support of Levy so he can get rid of any troublemakers and some of them have a direct line to the club President.

Ballbag with a quote in this article missing the very own point he is making. It’s what Poch always says!

Tuchel is one of those modern German managers who has always understood football as a game in which the collective is far more important than the individual, whereas at a club like PSG the importance of the star is paramount, to the extent that players like Kylian Mbappe and Neymar have a direct line of communication with the president.

Neymar returns to Brazil all the time, for parties and such. Hes always getting filmed here. So Poch is going to have to deal with a player who isnt part of the 'family' that he likes to inherit in his club.

Another issue, and this is something I was told by someone inside the club, is that when Neymar gets an injury it is not handled by the PSG staff. When he did his metatarsal in 2018, he was quickly whisked away by his team and sent to the Brazilian national team's doctors instead.

Whenever I asked this person about Neymar and if he was recovering for the WC, they told me that they didn't know and no-one did because he'd just been whisked away and no-one had seen him since.

His father runs every aspect of his career and if Poch challenges that he may have a big issue.

Poch gor frustrated at Spurs because he didnt have total control, it won't take long for him to realise at PSG, he's not got that privilege.

Sounds like he should just move Neymar on.

Mbappe is the one he should.build the team around

You're probably right but in reality it sounds like player power is going to be a strong factor. Very interested to see how Poch deals with this.

Neymar and mbappe have only one year left on their contracts

best case he gets a year out of them, wins something then they go - or he sells and reinvests

it’s a win win

their contract situations mitigate how long he’ll have to deal with them...while also giving him a chance to manage “egos “ and prove to Madrid he can handle galacticos while being successful in a relatively easy league

I think he’ll be fine but who knows? Regardless i wish him well
