€17m is £14.4m

If he’s available at that price and willing to come, we should be in for him.

I don’t care about whose place he takes or where Conte would use him or how he feels about being on the bench. That’s between him and Conte.

It’s that kind of squad depth that wins shit.

He went to Barca on a free so I imagine he is on mega wages.

Have there been any credible links/ITK?

Feels a bit odd otherwise. Surely we would have gone for one of him or Richarlison?

Don’t get me wrong - 17m feels stupidly cheap, better value than Richy anyway, but it’s hardly a pressing position now.

If he was able to compete at RWF (alongside Deki) maybe, but I’m not convinced he would
One of the ITK’s said originally it was paper talk I think or maybe the agent drumming up interest!

Still, it's relevant information.

Depay: 53 appearances for Manu - 7 goals/6 assists = 13 G+A
Bergwijn: 83 appearances for Tottenham - 8 goals/ 10 assists= 18 G+ A

So Depay played 30 less games and was only 5 G+A from matching Stevie. Yeah, he's more productive than Stevie.
You have this metric but how many minutes did they both play that would be more telling?

I’d hazard a guess that Depay played a lot of minutes in his 53 appearances and Stevie was sub a lot of the time.

What is your source on this? According to WhoScored, Depay played 45 games (2154 minutes) for ManU in the EPL, CL and EL, scoring 5 and assisting none.Maybe they don't count the domestic cups. Or is WhoScored wrong?

By the same source, Stevie played 71 games (2961 minutes) for us, across EPL, and European cups, scoring 8 and assisting 5, giving Stevie a 0.001 advantage over Depay in G/A pr 90 minutes.

That is, if WhoScored is right, and that doesn't involve the domestic cups. But if the domestic cups is where Depay got most of his goal involvements, I think the point is moot anyways.

Thanks. Used the same stats (Transfermarkt), and Stevie was still more productive at Tottenham than Depay was at United - 197.5 minutes pr G/A for Stevie, vs 200 minutes for Depay.

Unless I'm reading the stats wrong, if so I apologize.

True. Just not sure it’s worth debating who was better as whoever else comes in will offer something different to what we already have.
The other part of this is that I’m sure we’d have been happy for him to stay if he wanted, but he didn’t want to.

That was the narrative based on his cars and clothes, but Mourinho has already dispelled this.

"He is a really good professional. People can look at him and probably think he’s a party boy," Mourinho told talkSPORT. "I think he got this maturity in Lyon which is sometimes what players need.

Sometimes they can go too early to the biggest clubs where they are not ready to cope with it. Where they are not ready to understand that in the biggest clubs there are internal competition, that you can not play all the time. That there are fantastic players to fight with you for a position. They can lose a little sense of reality and become a bit childish. Which is what happened.

So when he decided to go to Lyon it was a great move for him and now he goes to Barcelona with maturity, with a good football age and I believe the Barcelona culture of football will help him also to level up in this important part of his career. But good memories of him and I repeat - he was a good professional."

In this interview, Mourinho actually confirms my perception of Depay when he arrived in Manchester, rather than dispelling it. ?

My opening remark: "The moment he arrived in Manchester I got the impression that money and fame had gone to his head"

Point taken that his attitude may no longer be an issue though.

Berg vs Depay feels like a moot point to me. Berg has left. Does anybody have Depay vs Moura stats? They would be more relevant as it's who we have and would be looking to upgrade on

The moment he arrived in Manchester I got the impression that money and fame had gone to his head (bling, ridiculous cars, social media activity etc.). He has enough talent that he can be a very decent in most leagues, but not enough talent that he can get away with his attitude in the PL. He could prove to be a bargain for anyone at circa £20m though...if he gets his head down.
The thing is he was in his early 20's, he's now 29. Did you not grow up at all during your 20's? Me at 22 and me at 29 were like different people maturity-wise

I really like that type of player - attitude (like being aware of his abilities), a certain X-factor and potentially a mean streak, so for on-pitch reasons I am all for it. Can´t possibly comment on his personality but he seems to have matured since his unlucky Man Utd stint, and if somebody can set him straight it´s Conte, so I am actually in favor of getting him in on a cut rate. Kane-Son-Kulu-Richarlison-Depay, on paper I can´t see a stronger forward line in the PL

that said, I´d guess he might prefer being top dog somewhere rather than one of many at Spurs

I couldn’t care less if he likes bling and expensive cars and I don’t think Conte does either.
I think Conte cares about professionalism, work rate and attitude on the pitch and training ground which by all accounts have never been a known issue for Depay. The only question mark would be over his pressing and if he makes sense after having already bought Richarlison in the same position.

He should have come to us instead of Man U. His mistake at the time was not to come to us first.

He’s a better option than Moura on the right to cover Kulu, and as an auxiliary striker, so an improvement on the squad. Moura himself knows he is running out of time at Spurs. There are stories today about Moura wanting a new contract - always a precursor for an amiable transfer.
