It isnt now that Rodon has signed. In the summer, Dier, Toby and Davies need to be sold. We can then sign a few CB’s.Is this even a viable option? Finances aside, we already have 5 CB's, two out on loan, players who can't even get into the squad who we'd probably like to offload like Gazzaniga and Rose. Just doesn't seem like we have the room before we permanently offload a few.
I did find the Rodon signing strange in that even though he looks a great prospect, I thought we only had the capacity for one CB and the strong preference for that CB to be of a very high standard.
Once again, it seems we're going to be left that one player short because the people in power wouldn't take that last step. Frustrating.

You have no clue what the club did or didn’t do to bring in this player.
Now for the rest my fellow fans, we had a fantastic window and a draw today (all be it throwing 2 points away), does not dismiss this fact........yes (Benitez style) FACT!
Personally, I think the subs were wrong and that’s what killed us. Those of you saying we should have killed the game, we were 3-0 up before HT! I like a high scoring game just like any other fan but our subs were not the kind of subs you put on to protect a lead. There’s a lot of games to be played and if we stick to the type of football we played in the first half, we can do something good this season.
This thread is going to get bumped any time we defend poorly isn’t it ?
Skriniar does stop Sissoko volunteering the commanding position to their first goalscorer, and he doesn’t prevent a poor header from Kane and poor clearance from Winks for the equaliser. Perhaps he doesn’t make a rash header to shore an own goal. This is all assuming he doesn’t test positive for Covid while on international duty because signing for us is akin to a vaccine, of course.
We drew because after 67 minutes of thinking we’d won it and strolling about, as well as failing to add a fourth with some very near misses, we conceded and then lost our heads. The team lost this match, no specific individual. I see Sanchez and Aurier getting hammering all over, what about Reguilón, who was defensively suspect a few times and lucky not to give away a free kick as the last man? He was the one duped for the cross for goal number 2. What about Kane for hitting a good, but low percentage shot from distance to the near post which was saved when he had free team mates, two I think, to play in?
We made individual mistakes of course, but individual mistakes are almost always the result of a team drop in concentration and application, and I dare say Skriniar in for Sanchez does not magically change that. I’m not saying I want to see Sanchez, Sissoko and Aurier starting regularly, the former is not where I’d like him to be while the latter two in my opinion should be squad players, but results like yesterday’s happen because of the collective not the individuals.
If you look at yesterday’s stats, the result was actually a fair one despite our commanding lead. I know nobody wants to hear that, but possession, chances, territorial position, all very similar. In fact, West Ham had more than double our corners, and that doesn’t happen if they’re not posing a threat. Even if they relied on set pieces, they’re part of the game and we need to deal with them. We didn’t. We had a big lead, we have far better players, but in the day the result which came to pass was probably a fair reflection on proceedings and that’s down to us, as a team, not actually playing consistently well for the majority of the match. Many exciting and great moments, yes, but I personally think we started costing out of gear from short the 25th minute, and that’s what cost is two points ultimately. Skriniar doesn’t solve that.
The making of Ledley was playing alongside Naybet for Spurs and Southgate for England. They coached him through the game and training. You mention we lost our heads I am sorry but for all the natural talent he has Sanchez is a complete composure black hole he has panic in his game and panic in a defence spreads. You can see it in his first few touches everygame it takes him time to settle then once we are on top he starts to look solid but as soon as the pressure comes on he panics and that panic spreads across the rest of the team he is not a bad player he just unfortunately lacks the most important quality for any centre back calmness and composure.

Sanchez needs the same.

The problem is we were poor on set pieces last season with Toby and Jan, then we dropped Jan and brought in Sanchez, but we were still poor on set pieces. Then we drop Sanchez and play Toby and dier against Everton, again we're still poor on set pieces. Then Dier doesn't play due to injury and we again try Toby and Sanchez but again no improvement. At some point the coaching staff have to take responsibility because there are teams in the bottom half of the table with worse defenders who defend set pieces better than us.Sanchez has trained and played with Toby and Jan for years. He's still young and has time to improve, but these brainfarts of his have been costing us points for a while.
Yeah but he learned a metric fuckton in that one game.King only played once with southgate at centre back
Yes, but it was the making of him.King only played once with southgate at centre back
