Spurs look to Roma for a Pjanic buy

http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/spurs-look-to-roma-for-a-pjanic-buy-8062934.html

Tottenham plan to move for Roma midfielder Miralem Pjanic before the transfer window closes next week, according to sources close to the Serie A club.

Andre Villas-Boas last week revealed he wanted to add creativity in midfield and his top target, Porto’s Joao Moutinho, is likely to be outside Spurs’s price range at £25million.

Villas-Boas was also interested in Rennes midfielder Yann M’Vila but Spurs are now giving consideration to Pjanic, who signed a four-year contract with Roma last summer after joining from Lyon for £8.6million. He is now valued at about £12m.

Sources in Italy claim Pjanic could swap one capital city for another if Roma resist Manchester City’s interest in Daniele De Rossi.

In the 4-2-3-1 system Villas-Boas is deploying, Pjanic could play either as one of the defensive pair or as part of the three-man attacking line which supports the lone forward. And at both Lyon and Roma, the 22-year-old Bosnia international was comfortable in a 4-3-3 set-up, which remains Villas-Boas’s preferred system.

Tottenham have also made an enquiry about City winger Adam Johnson and they are also determined to add at least one forward before the end of the month.

Despite the obstacles regarding his salary, Spurs are confident that they can conclude a deal for City striker Emmanuel Adebayor. The club have also been working on an offer for Leandro Damiao. The Brazilian is believed to be keen to move to north London but negotiations have been delayed by a failure to agree a fee with his club, Internacional.

I think there's a spelling mistake in this rumour. It should Read "Spurs look to Roma for a Panic buy"

Do you believe we are in a panic situation?

Not sure I do. These things take time and it's not just a question of every player in the world wanting to join us, that's a long way from the truth. Lots of clubs are finding it hard to find the right players and they're not 'panicking' as such.

Players are often guided by their agents to move to clubs who pay the highest wages (understandably but unforgivably) so it's not a straight forward exercise, buying players these days.

Anyway, we have a fine squad of players already (apart from being a striker or two short, and I think we'll have that sorted out this week).

I believe AVB has inherited one of the strongest squads in the EPL, so no panic here as far as I'm concerned.

I personally think this is a myth being drummed by the Harry loving Media brigade.

In regards to Pjanic, I've not seen enough of him since his move to Italy. IOMLS we need your input.

Pjanic would be an excellent Modric replacement. A very good playmaker. He was the best player on the park when B&H played Wales in a recent friendly.

I'd love it if we signed Pjanic! Very tidy player. Get Dzeko as well and we'll just trade Croatia for Bosnia as our Balkan country (TBH, Bosnia is a very interesting footballing country, hope to see them in Brazil 2014).

It's traditional that we're linked with Pjanic. This must be the fourth or fifth window running.

It's traditional that we don't sign him.

Hopefully, this window will have a different outcome.

I'd be happy if, come August 31, Pjanic is a Spurs player. As above, he can play in a number of positions in AVB's system, and he'd add some craft, guile and vision to our team / squad.

Not sure how much truth is in this rumor but for me Pjanic would certainly be a worthy replacement for Modric. Much more realistic, financially that is, than Moutinho.
IF Roma are willing to listen to offers then we should seriously be looking at him as an option.
