And before the quarterfinals France and Argentina played a mediocre Poland and Mexico side. Like I said that's part of the reward of being in the first pot. You generally don't have to play an elite side until the quarterfinals. It's a feature not a bug.

But we have also seen big sides beaten by lesser nations, so this "not played anyone" is a pointless ridiculous statement. You can only play and beat who is in front of you. If the other big sides don't win their ties against the likes of Japan et all, is that our fault that we go through and don't end up playing them? No. They didn't take those games seriously and didn't do enough. We did our job by winning our games.

I guarantee had we lost to Senegal you'd be saying "England should have won that". England can't win with some people.

I'm not disputing that. I know how it works.
It doesnt change the fact we haven't beaten anyone we wouldn't expect to beat.
In the past we've had harder groups and harder Round 16 games.
