Jesus Christ this is awful and really hits home. 72 is young- I don't care about "average life expectancy" and all that-- it's not fucking old, end of.

At least the old man got to see his son play some incredible football and enjoy life as well.

Make your mind up;)

Sad news, tough to lose a parent I'd imagine.

Sad news :(

I wish Chadli and his family all the best in what must be a difficult time.

I see I'm getting likes etc for this, I no way intended to take anything away from the topic.

Also I didn't mean to say 'a man like his elder brother and sisters' Cos the sisters are not men obviously. Apologies.

I don't think you did at all - older parents interest me for obvious reasons and it's very relevant to this thread. I don't want to outdo you but my youngest was born when I was 59, 31 years after my eldest. My first goal was to see her first day at school which is next week! Assuming I manage that :(, my next goal is to see her reach her teens. I hope I can keep setting these targets.

I think Mr Chadli would have got an incredible kick out of seeing Nacer's childhood right through to him becoming a very fine young man, with obviously great talent. I hope they are busy now celebrating his life and Nacer returns content that he's done his best for his family.

Funny you should mention the 'goals' as milestones, I am exactly the same, first it was fine until I became seriously ill about 9 years ago then the worries started, my goals, like yours were related to schooling, the next one for me is to see my lad leaving secondary school in about six or seven years, then being greedy I'm asking for his18th then his 21st which will take me up to 70.

A mere 27 years separates my eldest and my Rory. I think I can enjoy him so much more when my pace of life has slowed but I gave knowledge and experiences that I wish to pass on and to make him a better person but still retaining a free and revel spirit.

Good luck with your mission and regards.

RIP. It's the toughest time when you lose a parent. Take all the time you need Nacer.

Thank you. My regards to you too. Aren't we so much better parents now than we were before? I shudder at my inadequacy as a parent as a young man. I am full of life at a cerebral level and that seems so much more important than the physical abilities I've lost.

Nacer won't remember his Dad as just an older man - he'll have a whole bucketful of recollections.
