This guy appears another Hojbjerg / Skipp player. I’d much rather we go for someone creative who will get the ball and make something happen for the front 3

It appears Nuno plays a style that means we need Hojbjerg/Skipp type players. I know nothing about this guy, but if he can suit our possible style going forward, I have no issues with him.

Tenacious chap, isn’t he?

Definetely starting to see a pattern in the players we are considering. Nuno clearly prefers resilience, teamwork, toughness and relentlessness over guile and flamboyance. Seemingly he wants opposition teams to feel like they’ve been in a 90 min fight when they come up against us. Feels like we won’t let up, never give up, and run through walls to win. That is apparently his interpretation of ‘To Dare is to Do’. I like it.
Tbh that’s how it always felt every time we played his wolves side so that makes sense.

I can get on board with this. At least as part of the initial rebuild. We need character, fight and leadership to build the base so the flair players can do their thing. People willing to fight for the badge as sometimes esp in the premier league it feels like those with the biggest heart and energy wins out. Hence why ‘smaller’ teams can go toe to toe with the big boys. Sheer force of will.

I do think that that commitment was a key part in Poch’s success and, like it or not, Mourinho wanted to have that steeliness in our team too (that’s how his success was built in other teams). When I referred to gaping holes before it referred to this lack of fight and commitment - as only a few of our players seem to really fight for the badge and have the quality to back it up. A couple of injuries and we are exposing the soft under belly.

Don’t get me wrong I’d love a wonderfully creative spray it about type of midfielder but if we get this guy we’d at least have some proper committed cover for when the fatigue hits or backs are against the wall. Rebuild the base then go from there.

*he is also pretty cute so think the ladies will like him lol

As long as he is a Sissoko replacement then this makes sense - especially if we are going to be playing 2 tenacious midfielders.

Looking at him in the context of how we played against City, he’d be ideal in the role Hojbjerg carried out to the RHS of the CM 3. He’d occupy the half space in between Moura and Tanganga. Has the tenacity of Hojbjerg and Skipp, but looks like he has more going forward in his locker too, some decent footwork carrying the ball forward. Looks almost like Lo Celso in that respect, technical but with some real grit.
As a Sissoko replacement, I see it. But if he’s the Ndombele replacement, not so much.
I see this CM3 working best with a 6/8/10
Combo.
Skipp/Hojbjerg central as the sitting 6, generally controlling the midfield. That person needs to be comfortable enough on the ball to collect from defence and recycle, but also be a tenacious leader to dominate space and organise the other two midfielders.
To the right a 6/8 hybrid, a willing worker who is going to cover the ground but be slightly more progressive on the ball, someone who can carry at the defence, this is where I see Lo Celso being the starter, and Nandez being a decent option to pressure him.
To the left, a 8/10 hybrid, again, prepared to work on that channel, but given more licence to push on in possession and turn the 433 to a 4231 almost, but need to be disciplined to drop back in as soon as posession is lost. Alli seems to be moulding his game to do this nicely, but I’m unsure Ndombele could do the same.
Therefore Nandez as the 6/8 second body, yes. But if Ndombele goes, we need a second CM, an 8/10 option. Where does Winks fit? I’m not sure, but theoretically Winks, Sissoko and Ndombele out, Nandez and one other in, seems like a big ask.
Some of the recent media reports suggest we are looking for an AM rather than CM.

We’re trying to build a squad and in doing that want players comfortable and capable of playing the Nuno style. The effort from Skipp and PEH yesterday was immense and I assume we are looking for that high energy aggressive centre midfield approach. In that case we can’t rely on just Skipp and PEH, they need resting and cover for injuries and having a Nandez in the squad means we seamlessly carry on with the Nuno style without compromising by bringing in a Winks or Sissoko. I think it’s a smart move.

good in theory and we could do with more creative play, but looking at the way we played against Citihad, it appears to be the way NES likes to play, he really seems to rely on a solid defense

I know its only one game but when you look at players we are linked with and how we played that game, it seems to be his MO

Could make sense to bring him in. Our system as I see it now seems a bit fucked if Skipp or Hojbjerg would be out for a longer time. We are soon back with Sissoko if we don't keep the depth here alive.

This guy gives me Lucas Torreira vibes. I’m not sure he’s the right fit for the EPL.

To be fair I think Torreira was ok initially was he not? Then his form rapidly declined which could have been linked to how homesick and desperate to get out of England he was.

For a Sissoko replacement he looks great but I certainly don't like the idea of a trio of him, Skipp and Hojbjerg. Need a bit more guile in there but surely Nuno knows this, considering how much he relied on Moutinho and Nevez at Wolves.

Liverpool’s title win was built on a CM of Fabinho, Henderson and Wijnaldum/Milner. Is that any less progressive than against stronger sides a trio picked two from Skipp/Hojbjerg/Nandez paired with one of Alli/Lo Celso/Ndombele. Against lower sides, could go with one from the first pool a two from the second.
