  • Clear signs of progress, be it position wise of playstyle wise
  • Not getting into fights with the entire side
  • Not falling apart at the first sign of trouble
  • Not being a soundbite spoute
Essentially just showing that he's got a plan rather than hoping things stick.
Fortunately, it doesn't sound like Pochettino will be much of a soundbite guy. If we play some good, attacking football then I think it won't take him long to get the fans onside.

I think people have to set realistic expectations and then measure Poch's performances against that.

We're at best the 6th biggest team in the league so realistically we should be competing with Everton for that 6th place spot. Anything above that is a good performance and should be recognised as such.

And I'm not saying we shouldn't be ambitious. I want to see us competing for the top 4, and competing in the cups and playing good football at the same time. But the manager does need time to put that in place.

I'd say any manager should get at least two seasons. We jettisoned AVB before that and never had any intention of giving Sherwood enough time. Let's see if we can at least make it two seasons before pulling the trigger.

Will I give him time - Yes
Will I ignore any sign of unrest and disharmony within the squad and happily stand by for three years while watching everything crumble around us if things go wrong - No
Will I take any notice of David Ginola - Not a hope in hell, loved him as a player but he's one of the worst pundits I've ever seen :bag:

Unconditional support for 3 years is ridiculous. What if we have 3 seasons of rubbish with no signs of progress?

I'll support the manager as long as there are signs that we're progressing and moving in the right direction.

He needs 18 months to 2 years max to get the team playing to his style and challenging for top four. It may take 3 years to win a trophy but surely pressing doesn't take 5 years to teach.

As far as I'm concerned once he doesn't disrespect the club by leaking crap to the media like his predecessors, which I'm confident he won't as he behaved in the correct manner during discussions with us & didn't disrespect Southampton in the slightest & barring a disaster on the playing front, He's our manager until we move into the new stadium as far as I'm concerned. It's up to Levy & the board to back him now & not interfere in team affairs & give the guy the final say over transfers.

The Spurs dilemma. If he does too well too quickly we will lose him to a bigger fish in the sea and if he doesn't do well enough & quickly enough then Daniel will sack him. Just sit back and enjoy what will hopefully be a long ride.

answered "No" as I know full well that at the end of year two if no progress has been made from this season I will want him gone.

3 years is far too long... 2 full seasons at most will give you a clear picture of how the manager is doing...

He didn't need that long at Southampton. The style of football was identifiable within a month, and that was with no pre-season. Success is a different matter. I just hope the squad buy into his ideas wholeheartedly.

It's a bit weird that there is a 2-1 majority at the moment in support of 3 years barring relegation trouble. That's just unrealistic. He's got to play attacking footy or he'll be out and deservedly so. There's no point joining a chorus of "we're sorting out the defence first" and "he's building something". The new man has to be holistic in his team building and he's got to get goals.

So Pochettino should be walking in with his eyes open about needing to attack and needing to compete for 4th. He's largely done the former at Southampton and it'll be interesting to see if he can do the latter. But he wont get three years of finishing 10th to get there, and I think 64% of 65 voters are in denial about their own commitment to 'stability'.

I'd like to see us give a manager a chance to build a team. This business of replacing managers every year or two is for the birds. This will be the 10th in 13 years.

Its like the magic roundabout being a spurs fan over the last decade or so, manager comes in, new coaching staff, new players, manager loses a few games the boo boys start bitching and the chairman replaces him. Another manager comes in, new coaching staff, new players, old coaching staff go, old players go, the new manager loses a few games the boo boys start bitching, the chairman replaces him and so on and so on.

We have to stick with a manager sooner or later, some fans have to stop thinking football in the real world is as easy as their puter games, otherwise we will get nowhere.

3 years unconditional support?

He'll get 6 months like everyone* and he'd better like it.

*By "everyone" I exclude Tim Sherwood. Tim Sherwood got about half an hour. And I was done-diddly-dun!

As long as we are entertaining, the team have something that resembles a fighting spirit and I can start feeling more excited about watching us again, he can take all the time he needs.
