If anybody does have issues about the stadium , lack of beer etc etc , I did make an enquiry to the email address [email protected] , and got an answer . I am not that bothered about interviews but if they are going to do them we might as well hear them , the pre match interview Mark Falco & half time with Clive Allen were pratically inaudible on the sound system where I was sitting in n/w upper, it was the on pitch stuff that there was a problem with not the team news etc. , let the club know and its being passed to the Stadium Production team , so maybe not a waste of time if there are any problems .

How did you find the covid safety today?

I thought it disgraceful. 99% of people not wearing masks indoors. It’s like they’ve all been living in a hole for the last two years.

Or they’re fed up of living in this prison for the last 2 years. How much longer do we live like this now we’re either vaccinated or showing a negative test?

Until COVID is an endemic disease instead of a pandemic disease. We're not going to get rid of it. But we need to get rid of the peaks and waves of infection and make it a seasonal, manageable public health issue. More like influenza or even tuberculosis, which also kill a lot of people, but not in surges.

It's a bit strange to be using dramatic terms like "prison" when there are no official restrictions on activities. Showing evidence of vaccination, or a test, is just risk management. A bit like what we've always needed to do before we travel to Brazil. Or like boiling the water when staying in México.

I really wonder about people who feel they are "in prison" because they need to show public health information in public places. I don't think many of them were stuck shielding at home for 15 months, the way I was. "Prison", indeed.

Get used to it. It's the new normal. Like heat waves, wildfires and floods. Things change.

I agree with your post, although looking back at the chain of posts you were quoting from I agree with the previous poster as well!

The original poster before said that they thought it was disgraceful that 99% of people weren't wearing masks. I don't agree with that. The masks thing should be a personal choice in my view - particularly regarding the stadium. If an individual is particularly worried about Covid there is generally enough space to steer clear(ish) of most people and take individual precautions to avoid contact.

I was lucky enough to get to the Pacos game. I'm double jabbed and did a test that day for my own peace of mind. Those things combined with the lack of government rules meant I felt justified in not wearing a mask anywhere in the stadium. Does that qualify me as a disgraceful person?

Essentially, I think the needle has swung enough toward the idea of people taking their personal health into their own hands rather than the government etc. forcing health measures on us as a group. I think forcing 60k fans to wear masks in the current Covid climate would be the wrong move.

So totally agree with you about the vaccination/test proof as a good implementation of risk management. And whilst I know there will be unjabbed and untested people roaming the streets, I don't agree with the previous characterisation of unmaksed = disgraceful.

Although there are many good points there, the "personal choice" argument always founders on the one thing that gets forgotten. People are not urged to wear masks to protect themselves. People are urged to wear masks to protect others.

I suspect that one reason why sensible, intelligent people chronically drop this essential little fact from the discourse is that no one wants to think of themselves as infectious, so they focus on "personal choice" based solely on their perceived need to protect themselves.

That and the general failure of humans to understand comparative risk and risk management.

When I returned to the stadium for the Man City match, I expected that I would leave my mask off in the seats (outdoors) and put it on every time I went through the concourse (indoors). That was based on extensive reading, over the past year, on the comparative risk of catching COVID indoors and outdoors. I've never worn a mask outdoors.

But I didn't feel comfortable - just too many shouting, singing people close together. Emotions affect risk assessment, even for people who understand it. So I left the mask on for 90% of the time I was watching the match and 100% of the time I was indoors. And I didn't buy any food or drink, because I would have needed to take it off.

It's a semi-related point, but I was greatly encouraged by today's research report that, as well as reducing the number of infections by 90%+ and the number of severe cases by something in excess of 99%, vaccines also reduce the number of infected people who develop long COVID by a further 49%. So that looks like a 97-98% cumulative reduction in the chance of getting long COVID for fully vaccinated people.

This discussion really ought to be in the Coronavirus thread...

Oh totally, and I'm not one of those people who thinks a mask does anything else. It's more my take of being vaccinated and having tested myself that day which gave me confidence I wouldn't be risking others.

I only really mentioned anything because I was at the stadium for that game and the overall impression I got was that there are opportunities to be "safe". We were sat in the corner between West and South and the difference between the two sets of concourses was surprising. Covid aside, the difference in queues was marked.

Saying all that, the stadium was far from capacity so that will be having an influence as well.

Fuck Covid. Fuck segregation. Fuck pretty much anything.

If you're lucky enough to be able to get to this unbelievable stadium in any capacity whatsoever.

Think yourself lucky!

I'm itching to go with Dad, brother and nephew problem is I don't think disabled seats will be popping up on general sale very often.

I've been tempted to get tickets to the GnR gig.

Are you able to go a game?

edit. Sorry @coopsieyid I posted that too quickly. What I mean is that if you had a ticket, could you get to the stadium? I think there is a game coming up I can’t get to, and you could have the ticket.

It’s a shame that many of you will never be able to experience the original WHL with 50,000+ and the old shelf packed to the rafters

That was unbelievable with an atmosphere to match

And people didn't worry that they couldn't get a pint at half time , they went to see a football match.

Yep packed, not like sitting in your front room with the popcorn which is what shiny new grounds are like!

Don’t get me wrong , the new place is decent but it’s not proper like!

Anybody missing the stadium can view it today , available free of charge on The FA Player , Spurs Women playing .
Definitely missed the stadium today being stuck at the oval for the cricket, our stadium's facilities really are another level and make such a difference to the whole experience
