There was talk earlier that we were going to remove as much association to WHL as possible. For naming rights reasons. New sponsors wouldn't want anyone calling the ground WHL instead of the new name. :(

It makes sense really. Why would you shell out 100m, 200m or whatever to showcase your brand, with people still calling it something else?

I'd expect the station to be renamed after the stadium naming deal, not the club. It just is something else attractive to add into the package. Like what Emirates have down at docklands...

Not sure it will go quite that far. The station will be the closest to the ground but it will not be exclusively for the stadium. The sample you give is actually for the cable car which is now actually called that. Tottenham Hotspur maybe but Samsung Galaxy 7 station - probably not.

I quite like the middle one but would the white seats not go yellow brown fairly quickly/often?

Also anyone know if we'd still have half the pitch being in shade during 12 o'clock kick offs or with the position being left/right a bit and back/forward a bit will it negate that? TIA

I'll never see it anyway, as I always arrive from the pub just before KO.

You don't have to use the cable car to use that station either. This is Levy we're talking about here. He sees an opportunity to get our stadium on a Tube map, and getting someone else to pay for the privilege.

Plus if the stadium is eventually the home of an NFL team, it would make sense for it to be the branded stadium name on the Tube map, rather than the club, for tourists and all that shite.

No way would the Station be named after the ground. That would be stupid. The stadium sponsor leaves after 5 or 10 years and then what? Besides, TfL would never allow for a station to be constantly renamed every time a new sponsor comes in to dish out money for naming rights for our ground...
Trust me, it will be named Tottenham Hotspur station no matter what - IF it were to be re-named from WHL.

I'm pretty sure TfL has rules preventing stations being named after companies, apart from the renaming of Gillespie Road station.

And I'm pretty sure that in a situation like ours - a club founded and based in that location for well over 100 years and an institution that is worldwide and globally known as Tottenham Hotspur TfL will bend the rules.

I'm sure they'll bend the rules if it's made worth their while financially. Money has a habit of making things like that happen.

It would help if there had been a precedent of a London station being renamed after a football team, anybody know of one?

Although TfL's predecessor (London Public Transport Board, or something along those lines) renamed Gillespie Road station about 80 years ago, that doesn't necessarily mean that the present lot will follow the precedent. Government agencies seem to make up the rules as they go along.

Without wishing to be difficult about this, Newlon Housing Trust developed the scheme and won the award. THFC provided financial assistance, that's all.
It's still 'nice' that the club is financing schemes that give people from Tottenham the chance to stay in the area as 'gentrification' marches onwards.

Anyone got any thoughts on whether safe standing will be introduced into the new stadium in the next 5 years or so?

Suppose it would be the lower level of the single tier stand?

I'm pretty certain that we will have safe standing within the next few years, it won't be like the old terraces, it'll be like standing up in your seats now but with your own personal barrier in front of everyone.
There is a real momentum developing in the game and our club is a 100% behind it so as soon as it becomes possible we will have it.

Police wont want it and neith will h&s. Politicians are under no pressure to change the law.

As for our club being 100% behind it, we changed to all seater before the taylor report even came out.

So? Not like anyone who made that decision is still working for us (thank fuck). Our current position is that we're definitely open to it if and when the law changes, and we've designed the new south stand to accomodate it.

In terms of convincing the politicians, I'd say a lot could depend on what happens in Scotland. Up there the devolved SNP government have legalised it, and Celtic now have a safe standing section in one corner where the Green Brigade stand. So far there's been a great atmosphere and no instances bar the illicit "pro-IRA" chanting that's always happened anyway, so hopefully that continues.
