Can definitely see the potential with this one. If he’s Conte’s number 1 choice it’ll be great to deliver for him. He’s got the most out of every player with a good attitude to training, be that young or old. I’m sure he will here and we’ll have an unreal option in the squad, one that could develop into world class.

Hopefully further movement after we play Roma today.

So Conte doesn’t want/need a creative player like Maddison because he relies on passing patterns rather than individual abilities, but he wants Zaniolo because of his ball carrying individual ability? Is that correct? ? 100% all for backing Conte with whichever player him and Paratici decide is
the one they want but some of the logic in here is strange
The thing is we don't really know. We're all guessing based on the limited information we have available allied to our own interpretation and how we want the team to play.

I know little about football tactically so am looking forward to seeing how thing turn out.

Also I'm loving all the nice new shiny players we're buying. ?

I think the frowned upon phrase amongst a (thank fuck) very few is the "If Conte wants him" schtick.

And I don't understand it. If Conte wants him it's good enough for me is a perfectly fine thing to say.

We all know that Conte wanted backing in the transfer window or he'd walk. We were all gagging for the club to do just that and we'd have literally been carrying shortstuff out of WHL on a rail dripping in tar and spitting out the feathers freshly plucked from the Cockerel's arsepiece.

So the club sign players because of "If Conte wants him" and they had to.

So what's the crime in repeating along those lines in here. We ALL wanted that anyway, that's what backing Conte looks like. It's actually got something behind it which is a bit more than the enlightened "he's shit" posts masquerading as opinions. I think we'd all rather someone said they didn't rate him because X,Y or Z than treating us all to "he's shit", which is pretty much worthless not to mention lazy.

Other than that, you're all my friends that I haven't made yet

If Juve are interested in Zaniolo, I keep thinking that Juve will get Zaniolo and we end up getting Mckennie. Juve did the same with Vlahovic where we were able to get Bentancur and Kulu... so I can see that scenario..

With the reported negotiations is it more or less likely that Zaniolo takes to the field against us this evening?

I've been told if he plays it doesn't mean he's not coming but it won't be a good sign. I'm not usually one to read too much into the plays/not plays thing myself but that's what we're hearing.

At the end of the day we have to get used to FP and Conte signing players we won't agree with.

I would take Maddison over Zaniolo every single time, I just don't see how Zaniolo would ever come close to even getting the end product Maddison did last season for example. You do sometimes wonder if there is an Italian bias at play here with this particular player.

I just don't see how he's the best option out of the three, and his two knee injuries are a huge red flag regardless. Conte has signed plenty of flops in his time as a manager, so I think people should feel right to question it. All we can do is hope it comes off really. At the end of the day if we are backing the manager, that's all we can ask for. There is no zero point the club signing Maddison and overruling Conte, if Conte wants Zaniolo. We just have to hope it works out and it isn't a monumental mistake.

Don't get me wrong if we sign Zaniolo I'd be excited, but not nearly as excited as I'd be if we signed Maddison, but I am just a fan and Conte will see the big picture and how he wants to use the player.

I've watched enough football over the years to see for me that we have a huge Maddison sized hole in the squad, I can't say the same for Zaniolo at this point and the attributes he brings., but again I've not watched him enough

Surely we aren't signing him because he covers RWB too though. We are absolutely stacked there and Zaniolo is left footed.

I just feel that in games this season where it's nil nil with 60 minuts gone, who would you prefer to turn to? Maddison with excellent goal getting ability, and can pick a pass, with excellent long range shooting, or Zaniolo?

I hope Conte knows what he's doing on this one but personally at this stage I feel it's the wrong option when considering the alternatives.

As i've previously said, i'm on the fence so i've no axe to grind either way but this is the kind of post that you can disagree with and at the same respect because it sensible and fair

From you as well ;)

Presumably then the reverse of that is if he doesn't play that would be a good sign.
I'd guess Mourinho wants to use this game for his players to get ready for the season, sort of the point of these games, so why would he play one who won't be there.
Personally I don't put much store in all that either.
Anyway I'm sure I'll be happy when it all plays out.

Exactly how I feel on it. If it was my choice, it’d be Maddison all day. But if it was my choice we’d spunk £300mil every summer and probably bankrupt the club.

But I have to trust there is a plan in place and a role in mind that they think he can fill. And that this move allows other opportunities to open up for us. And Paratici has more than earned the benefit of the doubt for me.

A&C ITK ? hellooooo :) #WelcomeZaniolo ;)

I’m actually not on the don’t want him he’s shite or the he’s the 2nd coming of Hoddle, I’m somewhere down the middle on this one.

I think he’s a risk worth taking as 2-3 seasons ago before his ACL’s he was THE next big thing in Italy and in Europe, he’s not quite found that form again yet but he’s only 23 and if Conte believes in him and there are no fitness/injury concerns which I don’t think there are given he played 40 games last season then I’d be excited and intrigued by the signing.

I certainly think he’d be a different and better/more effective attacking option than Lucas so he’d give us that needed 5th quality attacking option.
