I’m out in Rome at the moment and caught up with a Roma pal of mine for dinner. He thinks Niko is a fantastic talent. Very natural. A proper footballer. But he needs to use his head on releasing the ball at the right time. That’s his failure, but he’s young. He thinks Conte could get a real tune out of him. Lots of noise on our interest out here.

Can definitely see this being 50/50. Can see Roma keeping him, he's their Italian crown jewel after all. Nothing to do with Jose imo.

If I had to make a prediction we'll either be in "here we go soon" territory by the end of this week or we'll move on.
Hopefully it’s moving onto Paqueta ??

My feel is 80/20 he won't move, unless, unless we meet their money request. Still have my doubts he wants to move. Their management will have huge protests if he leaves.

Impasse!
I give up now.
Oh

I guess the management need to answer the following questions:
1) Is this just posturing, is this just a normal part of transfer sagas...or is there genuinely a large gap in the bid/ask spread?
2) do they want another player like him, or is it just him they want?

Ultimately we need to sell anyway, so it shouldn't affect much there, but (2) is really important. Because if they genuinely feel the squad is short, and it's more than just posturing, we might need to get on with looking elsewhere

No idea, personally

I reiterate my view that they have no intention of selling and are just dicking us about like Inter.
The only way it gets done IMO is we pay them what they want instead of trying to negotiate which they clearly have no intention of doing. This could be very costly and a risk which is questionable considering his injury record.

No update my end on this. I don't get updates as regularly as others. Last I heard from my contact, there was a high level of confidence it was heading in the right direction and looked likely. Clearly we have stumbled across more issues. My guess is we will set a deadline for this week and if we haven't agreed anything, move on to the next target.

Death, taxes, Italian club shenanigans.

I don’t see it as a huge negative, just means we get to look at other options which hopefully FP has done. As long as he isn’t too attached to this transfer, there’s still a great outcome to be found for the AM/WF position this summer.

And it’s not like this one is dead either.

that’s fair long as we have other good targets you cant blame the club for moving on

No deadlines as things stand.

I think it was pretty obvious the deal was off looking at his playing time, involvement and conduct with Roma’s game last night.
Didn’t at all look like a man leaving anytime soon.

Hopefully we move onto the next target quickly.

Sad, while I would have preferred Maddison on a purely personal level as I think he is a better footballer Zaniolo might have been much better suited to Conte so this deal falling through if it does is not good news.

Let’s hope we hit our second or third target on the list
