The injury record must be a concern to pay top dollar. This is similar to City and Kane. We either pay up or shut up. What will FP do now? Curious.

Whys everyone taking one headline as its game over?
For reference this is the same paper that said romero had turned us down

It's not game over... maybe we just have to change the tactics ? ?‍♂️ ... but surely we can all agree that he is not worth silly money ? ... right now it sounds like that is the only thing that could change Roma's stance... a big pile of money for Mourinho's project :)

Sounds like a tough negotiation and we should expect that given it’s no secret we are amongst the biggest spenders in the world this summer. If he only has two years left on his deal and is seeking a big pay rise then Roma have to be certain they see him as instrumental to their future to be turning big offers down and signing him up. The fact they are willing to talk indicates they are prepared to sell now. We aren’t desperate for him though and I would’ve be surprised to see this brinkmanship continue until the end of the window.

In the article posted earlier, Zaniolo states that he was never seriously injured before his ACLs which is why it was so difficult for him. Reportedly lost a significant amount of weight too which should help.

It’s @Trix lack of confidence I think that’s making us think it won’t happen. We are apart on our valuations, they don’t really want sell so it’s up to us to pay the money? Which we probably won’t do given his injury history.

I guess a big factor for Roma is how willing he is to sign a new contract. If he is open to the idea then that will no doubt make them less concerned with getting this deal done. However if he is reluctant then we could take our time on it as he won’t be near as valuable next summer.

Well by all accounts both parties want it done by the Weekend so it will be sorted one way or another pretty sharp.

Roma would have to match his wage ambitions on a new contract. What we offered him is a ridiculous amount compared to what he is on now. And I have not heard Mourinho is demanding he stays. We agreed everything (terms) with Roma last week. We did not expect him to play Saturday. There are contingencies in place. Them materialising is a different matter. But his agent is pressing for his client to get him here. Now you understand the ‘impasse’.

Sounds familiar, must be a thing with Italian clubs

Yeah that's fair, Hercs just said something different though. Guess we will find out soon enough!

Huge money with those serious injuries affecting our peace of mind for that kind of wedge.

Can fully understand our reluctance tbh.

Interesting - it seems reneging on deals agreed is incredibly common in football! How frustrating.

This is the frustrating thing mate. I was told we had agreed a deal in principle. Reports now coming out of Italy suggesting the same but clearly it isn't as straight forward as that. Shows how info can be correct at the time of passing but it can also change very quickly.

Logging onto SC daily, and seeing the Zaniolo thread sit constantly at the top of 'Today's popular posts' had me thinking...

What other player threads have received this much traffic without the player actually signing?

Surely Leandro Damião springs to the front of most peoples minds, but are there any other less obvious threads which I've missed?

Mateo Musacchio who was at Villarreal at the time and dominated a summer of SC transfer speculation before he whimpered off to Italy and signed for AC Milan. He had an irrational amount of people posting their new-found love for a relatively unheard of
Argentinian.
