I was convinved Espin Baardson (sp) was going to be the new Schmeichel
Carefull what you wish for that same teacher has had to go to court accused of, hmm how can I put this lets just say abusing his position.I used to know Paul Morgan, he is 2yrs younger than me. He grew up on the estate across the road from mine in Lytchett Way, I lived in Sherborne Ave. Me and my mate's used to play football with him occasionally and couldn't believe he was at Spurs, a few of us were definitely better than him in our early teens! Apparently there was a PE teacher at Albany School, where he attended, who was always in the ear of the Spurs scouts and somehow managed to get him in the Spurs youth set up along with another kid, Richard Cook. There was another kid also, who lived next door to me, Steve Smart, the same PE teacher got him into Spurs too, I think he ended up at Woking then disappeared from the game. My conclusion was ' Bollocks! I went to the wrong school!!'
I remember Paul Moran and Andy Gray. I believe Gray was injured for a long time, but not 100% sure. I had the team photo poster that season with him in it.
Very few people seem to remember Andy Turner. Broke through just after Barmby, looked very promising, then faded away like a Back to the Future photograph.
There are several players from the 2000 to 2002 era that I have no idea about, as I was way too busy partying to watch much football. Fortunately it doesn't sound like there was much football to watch from us back then.
Claesen was actually a cracking little player, but Pleat only played one up top while he was here, and Clive Allen was banging them in so Claesen never got much of a chance. Thought he'd only played about a dozen games for us, so those 18 goals do come as a surprise!)
Fucking frodes
Dick's claims to fame:
I always loved a bit of Ruel Fox.
Mainly because when I was a kid I had the purple Hewlett Packard away kit, and I wanted a name and number on the back.
However due to my limited funds, all I could afford was three letters and one number.
Hence to this day I am the proud owner of a purple Spurs shirt with 'FOX 7' on the back.
God he was shit.
Or Gerard McMahon?
We have that hope for most players. Apart from the really odd signings like Sissoko where it just seems like resignation from the start. I still think the pre-signing excitement of Postiga stayed with him after he left. Was waiting for him to come up - I was somehow under the misapprehension that he was going to end up good...
I remember everyone being excited about qu bo when he had a trial!
How about a bit of Kevin Scott? How did people come out of the 90s still supporting Spurs?
And a shit load of awful ones!Awesome thread. Bringing back some great memories.
