There are a number of ex-players out there who continue to love the club years after they last turned out for us, with VDV an obvious recent example, but, honestly, has any man ever loved Tottenham as much as Micky Hazard?

There's an article on him on the BBC at the moment (http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/37320751) covering his unpaid management of Hadley FC, but two quotes really stand out, these being:

"I worship every moment I'm at White Hart Lane," he said. "When I became Hadley manager, I made it clear that if a fixture clashed with a Tottenham home game, then I'd be at Spurs."

"I donated my (FA Cup) medals to the Tottenham club dentist, who is a Spurs fanatic," he added. "His whole surgery is a shrine to Tottenham Hotspur."

Frankly, I think it truly wonderful that we mean so much to him so many years down the line and that, having found someone who loves Spurs as much as he did, he's given him his medals so he can enjoy them and share his joy with others.

Anyway, this thread isn't about Micky, as much as I love him (although any Micky stories are welcome), but about those players for whom playing for Spurs was the obvious highlight of their careers and who still love us no matter what. Special kudos points to any players who feel this way despite getting the odd bit of grief from the fans.

So who out there of our ex-players still bleeds blue and white and loves us as much as Micky?

Shame none of them are pundits

I find that strange considering he didn't have the greatest spell with us and is a big Liverpool fan but he says us when talking about Spurs on the radio and always talks us up

Think he's been pretty down on Spurs when I've seen him on TV, I did not realise this

Yeah, I take it that he was a Spurs supporter at childhood perhaps but has a strong affinity to Liverpool as he spent a lot of his career there and arguably had his best playing spell there.

Herd him on the radio saying he was a Liverpool supporter as a kid

Daveeed.

He knows he had the best and happiest spell of his career with us. He and Spurs was just a perfect fit.

He was also loved and idolised by the fans which, after the high profile criticism he received early in his career, you could always tell was something very important to him.

Comes across as a genuinely top bloke. Much respect for donating his medals as they probably mean the world to him. I love reading his tweets that are so passionate about our beautiful club.

I posted this picture on Wednesday before KO.

I didn't know Rasta Armstrong was a Spurs fan, seen as he had a mixed time with us I thought he'd possibly dislike us.

Daily Mirror website makes my adblock & ghostery throw an absolute fit :D

Rafa was the most recent i can think of who genuinely loved the club, and it showed on King Ledley's Day, when VDV had tried to get clearance to go right up until the last minute but couldn't, so instead recorded a video message and he was gushing like a busted fire hydrant.

I think a lot of the time we guage players on how much they say on social media, but there are plenty who are passionate fans who aren't so visible - Freund i recall showed up as a punter for one of our pre-seasons a while back, and Neil Ruddock has Spurs ink ("To Dare Is To Do" on his forearm), so it's not just the Twitter maniacs.

On MOTD last year he was on the sofa with Sherwood and he openly stated he wanted Spurs to win the league. He then looked at Sherwood and said something like 'Because we're Spurs boys'. Sherwood shot him strange look back if I recall.:)

Is he a 'fan' or a supporter? I think there is a difference. Most (all?) of us on SC are supporters, we support the club. My mate is an Arsenal 'fan', but said he's not a supporter, he's a fan of their football (this was back when they were successful!)

I saw Mickey Hazard, Graham Roberts and Steve Perryman at one of those An Evening With.. type events recently, and although all 3 of them were before my time and I know of them only by reputation, they all seemed genuinely in love with the club still. Micky Hazard was hilarious but clearly hugely passionate about Tottenham, which I found surprising given his northern roots... but he clearly loves Spurs as much as anyone else on the planet and I'm now a diehard fan of him as a bloke: seems a top man indeed.

As nuggets from that evening (which are probably common knowledge but which I'll repeat here anyway), Graham Roberts wouldn't piss on David Pleat if he was on fire (an opinion I'm not personally on board with) and Steve Perryman wouldn't piss on Alan Sugar if he was on fire (an opinion I have a lot more time for).

I am completely on board with it :D

We were on the brink of something really special when he got sacked, if he'd been able to go home and strum the mrs like everyone else does instead of paying some wrinkly old hag of a brass* for a nosh who knows?

*sorry mum

Presumably his home life must have been more of a "plough the yeti" rather than "strum the mrs" situation for him to go to those lengths, A&C? That or he's just an unforgivably dirty old man...

(As a fan who started off in the dark days of the late 90s, I forgive Pleaty all trespasses because he brought Simon Davies to the club and made watching a Spurs side who had sold Ginola bearable again!)

That team from 81-82 contained some players who have remained Spurs fanatics to this day : Perryman, Roberts,Hughton, Miller, Ardiles, Villa, Hoddle, Hazard. Hopefully our present players will have the same love for the club in 35 years .
