No, not an unrealistic rant from me, nor an improbable demand by our Dear Leader, but a simple fact. This season only the top five in the league will qualify for Europe, meaning one of Liverpool, Villa and Everton will miss out. Awww, shame!! :)

Not quite.

One of them will miss out, but 6th could still be enough if Portsmouth go bonkers and finish 5th as well as winning the FA Cup.

FOr what it's worth I hope West Brom win - always quite liked them plus I work in a record shop in Brum and we'll make money off the DVD....

Then, if I'm not mistaken, the extra place will go to the FA Cup runners up.

You are not mistaken...

Only way that means 6th would be ok:

Portsmouth finish 5th, and win the FA Cup by beating Cardiff (who are inelligible for UEFA cup)

I think...

Very true, Cardiff are indeed ineligable. Of course Pompey can win and finish 6th and therefore 6th will still qualify albeit not through the league.

Why are Cardiff ineligible for the UEFA Cup?

Part of the agreement that allowed Cardiff, Swansea and Wrexham to stay in the English league set up back in 1992 was that they couldn't take an English league place. They also have no route at the moment of getting a place through the Welsh FA, although they are trying to get in the cup competition.

Didn't the Welsh Cup winners get a UEFA qualifying place? I seem to remember the likes of Swansea and Total Network Solutions having a brief moment of glory.

I'd completely forgotten that agreement.

It would be rather wonderful if Arsenal went into an almighty slide, wouldn't it?

I would actually like to see Everton pip Liverpool for 4th. Previously I'd thought (i that completely selfish way) that I wouldn't want any other club outside the top 4 other than us to do it (my logic being that it would help that team and make it even harder for us at a time when we seem closet) but Everton are not run like Villa or WestHam or ManC - ie they have'nt ploughed some despot millionaire's slush fund into getting where they are - just great management and hard work - and it would be great to see Liverpool start to shit themselves and unravel a little.

By the way. What odds Everton pipping them and then Liverpool winning the bloody CL again and nicking their place.

Very slim. I think Liverpool will finish above Everton and won't win the Champions League. In the unlikely even that Everton do finish 4th, Liverpool win the Champions League do we then get an extra UEFA cup place. I know we had 5 teams in the Champions League last time, but I am sure they have changed the rules since.

Everton's run in is extremely tough, three top four teams and villa. Villa's run in is Man u away and then all five of the bottom five teams......

My gf is a Villa fan and was devastated when she found out it was only 5th, so I tried to make her feel better

Still think Pool will get 4th, hope Villa get 5th!

Actually, Hiram J. Pipesucker III or whatever his name is at Villa comes across as a pretty decent bloke, a very different kettle of fish from the Glazers, Gudmundsson, Stadtler and Waldorf, and Frank Shinawatra.

Randy Learner I think. Cue puns about study habits etc...

He has a villa tat on his ankle (or elsewhere) from his days at Cambridge/ oxford / rotterdam or anywhere. He spent a bit of his youth here ad loves the club so fair play to Villa.

Plus sae an interview with Doug Ellis saying how the Hicks/ Gillett mob ofered him shitloads more than Learner but Learner was in it for the club. Doug Elliscomes across as a shrewd businessman but a defo Villa fan.
