But that seems to not be the case at all. Personally I’m sick to death of opportunistic recruitment, if that makes me “emotional and repetitive” then so be it.

Although we continue to work on it, our top target on the winger list looks like he's going elsewhere. #2 has a release clause above our ceiling valuation. So we're moving forward with options #1 and #3 in parallel. All of them Ange-approved."

The 3 players were said to be Doku, Williams & Johnson in COYS

If this is true, I would say while even if, Johnson may not have been a pick from Gabbanini, Ange is still ok to have him as target.

In that scenario, I am more than ok for Johnson signing. Most of us also seen Johnson in championship & PL. So, each can have their opinion. But if Ange is okayed it, we should get behind him. As for as the price, dont care one bit if we pay 30m or 50m.

Hopefully we can do a deal similar to Spence, with a large percentage in performance related add-ons. 37,5% of the Spence fee was performance related which cannot possibly have been achieved at this stage.

I have to admit that I've been hoping the links wouldn't materialise into a bid because I was hoping for a bigger name.

I'm on board if he's an Ange pick and I've been impressed in parts by watching him when I have.

If we are going exclusively by ITK then all we know is what Trix and and Herc are suggesting which is this would be more of a club signing all be it one Ange might be open to. I said the same as you at the time re Johnson being the third name but it could just as easily be Fati who has been linked by ITK and Marca. In general we had a very similar discourse going on in the Spence & Danjuma threads at the time. Fortunately we have Ange in control now and he seems a lot more easy going when it comes to players in comparison to Conte.

As I said, if this is truly a Ange pic then I’m 100% behind the signing regardless of my own personal reservations on the player. If we get him then I’ll hope he proves my concern’s completely and utterly unfounded. Gold coming out and saying he’s an Ange pic tho doesn’t do much for me when we’ve had ITK suggesting the contrary. Tbh if we end up buying him outright for £40/50 mil that would be pretty convincing but I’m still hoping if this does happen it’s for a partial trade.

If it's genuinely an Ange pick and he comes out and says he wanted Johnson all along if we sign him then fair enough.

But I don't think Ali Gold saying Ange wants him means much - he gets most of his exclusive info form the club so I suspect it's no accident that he's been briefed that Ange is the one who wants it given the somewhat lukewarm response to the initial links this morning.

Good shout, I know The Athletic reported that we made a late effort to hijack City's deal for Doku, so that makes some sense.

I dont think Johnson was ever 1st choice and AG saying he is does nothing for me either as he can be a mouthpiece at times for what the club want to put out.

It sounds a bit of spin. Especially as other targets have gone or v. Pricey. But hey if he is ok based on those scenarios then it should be ok for us all.
